Front wheels

hello all I have had my car for 6 months or so(88 gxl) and noticed that when I am driving over 50 mph the car shakes. Im looking to get new tires all around with an alignment soon, but in the meantime Im trying to rule out any other wheel related problems. I did a test on the front tires, which someone on this site suggested. I jacked the car up and held the front tire at 12 and 6 oclock position, and pulled on the tires. I noticed that there is some play in both front tires. I checked, and the lug nuts are on tight. Could this be the problem that's causing vibration? If so what do i need to check? What parts are usually associated with wheel play? Are they standard parts that are fairly easy to find? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated--Thanks in advance to all--Ren

Check your driveshaft. The U joint might be toast. They are not rebuildable so you'll need to purchase a used one or a new rebuildable unit from Mazdatrix.
