Flat tire, need help
Flat tire, need help
Ok, so I caught a flat in my 2nd gen i would have put the spare on but I took it out to save weight the only place around was a home depot so I went in and bought a couple cans of tuff stuff and filled the tire up with that and now it seems to be holding pretty well Do you guys think I can just leave it like this.
i hear ya but it seems to be holding up. This got me thinking. i really don't want to put my spare back in. so if i fill the other 3 tires up with this stuff maybe it would be like having run flats. would it work the best if I let the air out completely and fill the tire all the way up with the tuff stuff. I think that would get the most in. I would spin the tire around while filling to make sure it spread around before hardening.
The stuff you bought coats the inside of the tire and forms a seal, it will work for small leaks, but the second to much pressure occurs in the tire that same spot is going to leak again.
It wont work like run flats. The stuff is just for tiny tiny leaks and has to be re applied every time a leak occurs.

sorry the product is called great stuff not tuff stuff. It is not fix a flat. home depot didn't have fix a flat. they had this expandable foam stuff. That is what I filled my tire with. Here is the link.

i would advise on getting a new tire ASAP. any type of fix a flat does 1 thing. it eats away at the inside of the tire and bonds rubber together to stop a leak. when you spray that stuff in a tire it completely ruins the tire and weakens it. if you leave that stuff in the tire for long periods of time it can corrode the barrels of the wheels. i work at a tire shop and i see this all the time. fix a flat is to be used to get you to a safe place not a complete fix.

the stuff is really meant as a temporary fix, same as tire plugs.
the correct way to fix a tire is to swap the spare, drive it to a real tire repair facility to be dismounted, cleaned and patched from the inside of the wheel. when i repaired tires we ONLY patched them as that is the only legitimate repair.
tire plugs and fix a flat ruin the tire.

I kind of want to try this at a Lemons race and leave a giant sealant booger sticking out the side of the tire. Extra points from the judges!
No, it is definitely the expandable foam stuff. It was a bitch to get in the tire. I had to remove the core and do it with the tire laying down flat. After it hardened, I took the tire to the rental section and they filled it the rest of the way with air. this stuff expands and hardens. That is why i was thinking it would work as a run flat of sorts by making a solid tire of foam.
I could see doing that on a lawn mower, I did it myself, but on a tire that must be balanced for speed, No way. I should have bought a new mower tire instead. I hope you really tip the guy that has to clean all that foam off the inside of your rim when you get a new tire.
