Fitment Issue: 17x9.5+38 FD3s?

Can I fit this size all around front and rear?

I know I'm going to need to roll, but I won't have clearance issues inside? Is anyone running the setup at all? This is for a track setup and I will be running a 255/40/17 all around, no stretch or anything fancy, just need to get an idea of how doable this is, any help is appreciated. Thanks guys in advance.

Friend of mine is running 17" x 9" + 45 with 275 all around and bent up fenders from the tires rubbing. This is with Tokico shocks and stock springs. I run the same size wheel with 255/40/17 and usually don't rub unless I drive fast over a big dip in the road. When I do that the front tires rub a bit. I'm running Konis and GC coilovers. I've posted that a few times if you want to look for other posts from myself or Mahjik on that size.

Also, Look at the 1st thread w/ the spreadsheet stickied in this forum for more info on rim/tire fitment.

But are you running 255's in the front at the track and still not rubbing?

I want to run 17x9.5 +35 in the front w/ a 255/40 tire, on tein SS coilovers, fender roll, slight pull, and about -1.7 front camber. Any idea if this will work at the track (for FD)?

as of now im running a 235/40 in the front on stance coilovers with no problems. I will be buying new summer tires soon and am probably going with bigger tires so i will let you in. also my setup does have quite a bit of camber

Doesn't look like he does track events other than maybe some drifting.

I am 90% certain that you will rub with that size wheel/tire.

Plenty of old posts on the topic to back that up if you want to search.

So your first post is misleading

Not many of us are going to stretch a 235mm tire on a 10 inch wide rim.....hell, I run a 275mm tire on a 10 inch +43 in the back.

Ergh, I DID search. But for every person who says "it won't fit" there's another guy who's like "I run blah blah and it works great no problem!". It's hard to weed thru who's right and who's not sometimes. Thanks.

i guess it just depends what you set your car up for. sorry if my post messed you up. when i bought my wheels plenty of people said there is no way you could fit them on a stock body fd and sure enough they fit. I think sometimes stuff that shouldn't fit according to the charts somehow does. who knows. good luck fitting your wheels. if worst comes to worst just rent a fender roller. would save you alot of trouble. just my 2 cents

You'll get the drifters and the mad-tight-yo guys that run stretched tires and never really track their cars saying it fits. I probably just pissed off a few people but sorry, but I love using the "cool" words yo and over generalizing can be fun.

Seriously though, some guys run ridiculously stiff coilover spring rates that aren't streetable and rims that are too big that would rub if they ran a lower, track oriented ride height. Yet they parrot over and over that it "fits" b/c they can bolt them on and they roll but don't really drive the car hard or have a track worthy setup.

Search on posts by forum elders such as DamonB, rynberg, Mahjik, ptrhahn, SleepR1, Fritz Flynn, GoodfellaFD3S, AMRX7 and you'll get the info you need on just about any suspension topic. Also search and read posts from howard coleman. He is a former SCCA Nationals winner and shares lots of good info. You can probably safely ignore many threads on which that those guys didn't participate (at least in the suspension section). I shared some usable info in old threads also in between my wise *** remarks.

Nice car.

Please post pics of the fender rolling you had to do.

Next question since we have seen that it is Doable - Is it worth the work when the +45 fits w/o any screwing around?

275/40R17 on all corners.

My ride height is about 26". I would prefer 25", but the 275/40 is a tall tire for the wheels. 275/35 should fit fine.

Oh yeah, +43 offset.

It's really too bad nobody makes a 275/35-17.

I run 275/40-17 on 17x9.5+42 all around, exact same as NeoTuri above at about 25.25" fender height, and I've rubbed away large areas in front and on the outer top of the front wheelwell liners on the track. Even different brands/models of tires of the same size will vary - the 888s I'm running are much wider at the shoulders than any tire I've ever run before, and rubbing has gotten worse.

tires shift side to side under cornering load, especially with the grip these generate.
heres a pic of the same wheel/tire sitting still

Do you do autox or track that car?
Thanks.

Yup, must have missed this thread.

Suspension setup is Ground Control with Koni Yellows.

Springs are Eibach, 550 lb front, 450 lb rear.

Sway bars in this photo are Suspension Techniques, front and rear.

Sways now changed to TriPoint 0.188 in front, stock in rear.
(ST is too stiff for cold weather, way too stiff for wet)

The clearance in the 285's in front is close, but even on a bumpy autox course there is minimal rubbing in the front.

As for the rear, lots of room there. Probably going to 315's in the back next year.

Car sits at 25" at the top of the fender arches.
