Few noob questions about FC and wheels
hi, I have never seen what a FC would look like with all four wheels stick out and lined up with the finder, can anyone show me a picture what it looks like? Cuz I'm thinking about it...but I really just can't picture what it would look like.
I'm thinking about 17s
they can't be wider then 7.5, and the tire can't be wider then 225.
so what offset would you guys recommand for the look I'm after?
would it make a difference if I run 7 in the front, and 7.5 in the back? or should i just run 7.5s all around?

17 x 7 and 17 x 7.5 are gross sizes.
you shouuld step away from 17" wheels if you only want a 7 or 7.5 width. get good wheels and go with a 16 or 15 to keep the weight down.
and the fitment style you are looking for is called flush
everyone's definition of flush differs. but to make it look good, you need a substantial drop and stiff suspension to bring the wheel close to the fender. otherwise you end up with a style pejoratively called 4x4

7.5 and 225 is the size limit for the class that I race in, so I can't go over that. the only reason I'm thinking about 17s is so that i can use low profile tires, to eliminate sidewall roll.
my car is about 1.5 inch lowered, with pretty stiff spings. thats why i want the low and wide look. also just to get a bit more traction.

Why even bother with looks if you are in a restrictive, limiting race class. Especially looks inthe wheel/offset department.

if your are going to be doing anykind of real racing any true driver knows that going with a bigger wheel is not really the best idea. i would recommend you sticking with a stock size for racing application, less rotational mass= faster response times.its just for street then go with the 17's.

the stock size tire is 205 60 15, but say If i run something like 205 50 15 or 205 45 16 will that affect anything? I just want to be run the lowest profile tire I can put on my wheels.

thats the tire I'm looking at, and it only has 195 for 15" so I'm thinking about the 205 45 16, it seem to be the best bet, what do you guys think?

wow, that's a really useful tool, thanks alot aznpoopy, but I have a question, by change the size of the tire, is the speedo reading my only side effect? or is there more things to it, on the site, it says that anything too different will result in brake problems, but how is that? sorry, I'm a total noob on these things, been rely on my mechanic too much in the past...but I gotta start some where right?

you may be better off with a 16" wheel and the shortest height tire you can find to get additional gearing power (faster acceleration) from the shorter tire O.D., kind of like going from a 4.1 rear end gear to a 4.5 or so the theory works.
like how many miatas and crxs in autox use a 13x9 wheel with a 225 tire that it shorter than stock to get a shorter overall gearing on the car that has not much torque.
with a 16x7.5 and a 225 tire you will have plenty of fun. my civic was faster on 14x5.5 with slicks than it was on 16x7.5 with azenis.... and the 14" wheels were light as HELL!
maybe you can even run a 15x7.5 and a 225 tire?
oh yeah, are you autoxing or doing something different?
if a 10" wheel with +35 offset is flush out back then a 7.5" wheel will need an offset of almost zero (maybe +5?) to look the same on the outboard side of the wheel well.
too bad you cant run a 8" wide wheel because there are a lot of 16x8 wheels with zero offset for the 240sx/drift crowd.

As far as smaller wheels AND tires you would most likely only affect the final drive with going lower than a factory diameter wheel/tire combo. Generally people try to get within 5% error (the miata.net calc is good for experimenting with this) as far as revolutions per minute go , but that's mainly for the speedo which you can have recalibrated too.......
Last, you should bear in mind that moving the wheels out too far can negatively alter the geometry of the car and in the very least will most likely wear parts out faster as more stress are put on them in general so it's all a tradeoff but just make sure it positively affects that car's handling characteristics in the end.
