I wonder if the barrel shape has an effect on the wheel integrity?

I doubt it. It will affect the fitment depending on your brake setup though.

Also noted that it's never been confirmed from Mazda that the "other" rims are indeed reinforced. People have cracked them just like the originals. It's most likely just a change in manufacturer rather than Mazda intentionally trying to beef up the design.
LOL.. Mahjik...a lot of people on this forum couldn't even drive 13 years ago.

The wheels crack on the spokes, in which the barrel will have no real bearing on.
