FD wheel stagger/width/offset question

I've done some searching and have looked at the JimLab excel sheet, but I'm hoping to see if anyone who's run a setup similar to what I'm proposing to chime in on fitment, handling, impressions, etc...

I am considering running the following wheel/tire size setup:

17x9.5 +35 Enkei RPF1 wheels all around (4)
255/40/17 tires all around (4)

Questions:
1. Did you have to roll any fenders for street/track use?
2. Does anyone know if you can get the 17x9.5 +35 size w/ their gold color?
3. How are 255/40 tires on the street? Too much tracking? Hydroplaning?
4. What tire brand would you recommend for 255/40/17 for combined street and track day usage (assume 4 track events per year, hoping to use tires for at least two years)?

Thanks!

Nate

they don't make the RPF1 17x9.5 in +35. Its actually +38. But its only 3mm.

1. With the 17x9.5 +38, you will not have to roll fenders. If you're going with one a 255 tire, then you should clear without any problems.

2. The gold colors only are for 5x100 lug pattern. I'm sure you can special order it specifically for you, but expect to pay much extra. Otherwise only silver or SBC is available.

3. I've ran 255/40/R17 all around on my FC and never had problems. What suspension setup are you using?

4. Depending on how much you drive your car, no tires will last 8 track events and two years worth of driving. Any street tire would be lucky to last 2 hard-driven track events. Do yourself a favor and get two sets of wheels. One set with street tires. The other with better track tires.

Jaiyurai, thank's for pitching the info...

I have a 1993 R1 with the OEM R1 springs and Koni dampers, otherwise the suspension is completely OEM.

I have the OEM set of wheels still, the Enkei's will be a 2nd set. I'm still undecided on whether or not to keep putting all seasons on my stockers and put more agressive tires on the Enkei's, or do the reverse.

Are there any tires that you would recommend that have excellent wet traction and fair dry traction? In the past I've had good success w/ the Eagle F1 GSD3's on my MR2 turbo, but they are a bit pricey.

17x9.5 +38 should fit fine. I run 17x9 +35 with 255/40r17 with no rubbing at all. My fenders are slightly rolled, though.

I recommend Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs. I just picked up a set myself and I plan on using them for street class time attacks and daily driving. They also have excellent wet grip from what I hear too. I heard they're excellent, comparable to the Neova, R1R, NT-05, and RE01-R.

If you're looking for a track wheel/tire setup, I'm debating whether or not to stick to a purely street-tire setup on the track. The wheels are the same ones mentioned above, 5zigen FN01R-C with shaved RA-1's. Let me know if you're interested.

I occasionally rub with 17 x 9 +45 offset and 255/40/17 rims. Usually with aggressive driving when I hit a big dip in the road. I don't know how you guys don't rub more often with a +35 offset.

Very firm springs maybe? haha, I'm hoping the R1 springs will be firm enough to prevent rubbing.

I'll consider the offer for the FN01RC's, as they are gorgeous wheels, but I'm leaning heavily towards the Enkeis for now.

Looks like I will have to roll the front fenders a little to comfortably use this wheel/tire setup.

Thanks guys!
