Already have the tein s-tech, kyb GR2 on their way.
Now I want aftermarket wheels.

As mentioned in the title I plan to go for the common set-up:
FR: 18"x8.5" ET35 with 235x40x18 tyres
RR: 18"x9.5" ET35 with 265x35x18 tyres

Now I'm wondering if the tyres will touch the springs/shocks... Tein S-Tech seem to be wide...

If you have this set-up or know someone who does, your feedback will be precious!

I think it should work, maybe with some fender rolling and a little camber

For the outside I think we'll be fine, may be a bit of fender rolling but nothing big.

I was more concerned about the inside and teh tire touching the springs.

I've seen here a guy installing tein springs on a FC and the wheel was badly rubbing the springs and schocks.

Which wheels are you going on my friend?

 

I have goten confirmation that 9.5x18 wil fit in the back with ofset 35.

I'm going to run 9.5X18 all round (final now)

 

You won't have a problem with the spring size. The concern will be with the front fender which you'll probably need to increase the camber to deal with... Here's a picture of my 17x9 +43 with 255's and Tein S-Tech springs:




If you go with a +35, you'll need a stretched tire or more camber (or a combination) as you can see my setup is pretty much right on the fender.

 

I will get the 9.5x18 with offset 35 and have them machined to offset 38 or maybe 40.


Other than that, the 255/35's will get a little stretched on a 9.5 wide.

So I guess we'll get there

 

And now I wonder if I should go 17 or 18...

Since 18's are more common today on cars like BMW's and Mercedes, the availability of good tires is much better than it used to be. It wasn't too long ago that there wasn't a good selection of performance tires above 17". Having said that, the main downside to a larger wheel is less sidewall. More sidewall absorbs the road noise and takes out some of the harshness.

For me, most 18's look like monster truck wheels on the FD. There are a few wheel styles that look good (i.e. mesh wheels always look smaller than they really car so 18's in those look really nice), but for the most part I like 17's for the FD.
