fd ride height uneven after tein flex

fd ride height uneven after tein flex

so after putting on a set of used tein flex i had noticed the L rear is higher than the R rear, the shock bodies and perches were confirmed to be at equal setting prior to install.

to fix the problem today i had to:
- adjust the shock body on the L as short as it goes and turned the spring perch down to 3 inches below the top of the shock.

- on the R the shockbody is set to 1 inch longer vs the L, and the perch sits 2.5inches below top of shock.

dialed into these current shockbody/spring perch my R side should be riding ~ 1.5inches higher than my L..

this is bugging me. so now preload is off due to the uneven perches. and i wonder what is causing the original uneven-ness.. is the R side shock blown? i thought blown shocks don't interfere with ride height.

im just cruising around town at the moment and the (weird) adjustments i made to the tein are definitely temporary, just wondering what to look at next.. by the way the ride height was even in the back with my previous shock/spring setup

that sounds like a pretty big difference (2"?). you might wanna make sure the tops are seated properly and all that.

difference in preload really doesnt matter, so dont worry about that.

oh- are you sure you have the right springs in the right places? if you had two different rates back there that would definately make it sit funny

josh, youre right it is a huge difference lol.

i had already checked the springs they are the same 8k ones on both sides, tops are seated where they should be.

How are you measuring ride height? I thought I had a problem with Tien SS's only to find (after a lot of tinkering) that my passanger side front fender was slightly off due to a repare job from an accident w/ the previous owner. Since I was using the fender to assess ride height, it completely threw me off. If the perches are set the same and the springs are the same, you may have a similar problem.

Ok so it's hard to completely visualize what's going on but I'll start from the beginning.

1. It's quite normal to have the perches at different locations for each corner due to variances in weight distribution of the chasis. Obviously there shouldn't be a huge difference.

2. The spring preloads should never be touched once they are set properly. sounds like you already know this and didn't have a choice but to induce a droop situation for your springs.

What ride height are you attempting to ride at?

Ground to middle of fender please. Most guys are around 25". are you going below that?

rishie,when i noticed the uneven-ness the ride height was at approximately 24.5 on the lower corner and 25.5 on the higher side. on a 80% tank of gas. however i'm at 24.25 ground to fender at the moment at all corners, on 16 inch wheels, 245/45 tires.

in your opinion, can a combination of perch/shock body length adjustments of 1.5 inches to reach a even rear height fall within the realm of "necessary adjustments due to weight distribution variances". also are tein shocks supposed to be noisy over bumps? like a whoosh or a squeak sound? is this a sign of it being blown?

moehler, no signs of frame/body warpage. i confirmed this with a few measurements from the body and frame to the ground, and also due to the history of an even fender to ground rideheight with my previous spring/shock setup.

You should be able to hear the shocks compress on bumps if they are set on a low setting. If you tighten them up, the sound should go away or reduce since you are not allowing as much compression. If they are blown they should be leaking and would pretty much ride like ***.
