FD Rear 315/30r18's!!!

Most people probably wonder how wide of a tire can the stock rear fender hold. Well, with the right offsett and just a fender roll I was able to tuck 315's at the rear. Nice, clean, and easy.......pics and specs up soon.

Its pricey to buy wide tires and not have em fit without excessive mods, so hope this information helps out!

Nice!

Your trailing arms are stock? If stock, there must not be much space between them and your tires...

Nice fitment!

BryanDowns 06-03-12 09:36 PM

I have some CCW 18x11 7.5" backspacing and am in need of new tires anyway.

More info please.

I have 18x11 +41 fikse wheels with 295/30 and there is tons more room. My tires tuck all the way under

19x11 Work Meister with 315/25/19 T1R's. Stock trailing arms. Inner fender lip removed with no fender full.

Aftermarket trailing arms and there's about 1/4" or so before touching. Suprisingly these FD's can really pack some tires at the rear without major mods.

I believe that having an extra .5" of rim width with a 7.5" backspacing may throw the fitment off either to the outside or inside depending on the rim build. I'm no expert, but the specs off my LM's worked though.

Right, offset is the key to centering the tire between the fender and unibody.

the 7.5" backspace on 11" wide rim gives you a 38 offset which means you will foul the fender lip 6mm more than the 7.5" backspace on the 10.5" rim (44 offset) with the same size tire.

You would be limited to 305 on the 11" +38 rim in order to have to do the same amount of work the op did to fit his 315 on his 10.5" +44.

I just went to 18x10.5 +38 all around (because it is hard to find higher offset wider monoblocks) and am limited to 265/35-18 on the rear with stock fenders and 1.3 deg neg camber as it just barely rubs the lettering on the sidewall on compression.

With my +38 offset and 1.3 deg neg camber rolling the 18mm rear fender lip completely under or cutting it off would fit a 295 and anything beyond that will require some pull on the fender as well and or more negative camber.

Glad this thread was useful...

Northstar01 06-07-12 02:47 PM

nice meaty tires!

Trout2 06-07-12 06:59 PM

Good info. What size wheel/tire you running in front?

Jack

It's great to see someone stuff some wide tires under an FD. I have a few questions:

1. Any rubbing under cornering?
2. Any rubbing under bumps?
3. Spring rates?
4. Sways?
5. Inner clearance?
6. Ride height?

Thanks,

Andrew

275/35r18 in the front. Slight rubbing at the front lower control arm (rub area was shaved with a dremel)

Suspension are Pettit Trackpro stage III front spring 12kg/rear10kg

There's about 1" of clearance between fender and tire. Inside clearance between trailing arm is 1/4". This seems more fuctional when driving on the streets. Sways bars are just regular Racing Beats...No rubbing when going over speed bumps or going in and out of drive ways.

Haven't measured the height yet....

Nice. How much camber are you running? Also, would a 295/40 look stretched on a 10.5 ?

zilvinas007 06-08-12 07:32 AM

Good info more please

There were no camber plates install as you can see from the pics. Its pretty dead on straight and flush.

295's will not be stretched on a 10.5" width wheel. My previous tires were 285's and it was square. The 315's are pretty squared as well.

The only way to find out....is to simply try:nod:

SayNoToPistons 06-10-12 02:51 AM

The RT-615's in that size is about 15mm narrower than marked. Yes, they are known for running a bit small in tread width compared to similarly matched tires. So in other words, they're actually not 315. Not to rain on your party, but just enlightening.

allrotor93 06-10-12 07:14 AM

I have 295 AD08s on my 11" wheel and it isnt stretched at all

turbo5spd 06-10-12 10:10 AM

That fitment looks perfect!

Any useful information are always welcome. And yes, every tire manufacture does have their own variation in tire sizing.

Brent Dalton 06-10-12 06:39 PM

Good info. very nice to see people stuffing as much meet in there as they can. Dan Chadwick, Erik strelnik, and Kevin doe also have all been running 315's in the rear of the fd with only fender rolling for a few years without issue.

Junkhead 07-02-12 07:14 PM

great fitment

Zhé 07-09-12 04:29 AM

do you have any more pictures of the setup? from different angles and distance?
