is it possible, in a hard turn, to have the tire roll so much that the rim lip scraps the ground?? Tires are 235/40 on 17in. rim with brand new Bilsteins and Racing Beat springs. This does not seem right but there are 8 new gouges in my rim to prove it. I hear it scrape but I thought it was just the fender lining (which shouldn't happen either). Suspension was just put on this week so maybe they installed something wrong on that corner... what should I look for??

 

BTW, tire pressure is fine and its a 17x8 rim

 

Are you sure that the rim isn't coming into contact with the fender and that's causing the damage? I can't see your scenario being physically possible.

 

fender is untouched plus there is still a decent enough gap that I couldn't see the springs compressing to the point where the fender would meet the rim. I also can't fathom a tire rolling so much that the rim would contact the ground unless 1) tire is flat 2) going 100+mph and making a 90 degree turn. I am baffled...

 

Is it the outside edge of the rim? If it is the inside, it might be rubbing your sway bar or some other suspension/body part. Or you scraped a curb while parking or in the drive-thru. It does seem unlikely that this would happen without some exceptional conditions.
