Nope, not at all. That sizing is perfect for a mildly modded FD. The stock tires are too skinny, to be truthful. Newer vettes come with massive tires.....something like 275 front and 295 rear.

Wow a wear rating of 180!!!!! What is that about 3000 miles before I am at the wear bars!!!!!!!!!! Anything you would recommend at a rating of 300

If you would have taken the time to read the user comments, you'd see that people are getting 10-15k out of the Yokos.

I'm just trying to help you find the best performance street tires for your FD....in my (unsolicited) opinion, 300 treadwear tires belong on Camrys and Accords

okay my ignorance on the subject. It is hard to translate driving styles to mileage or useful life of the tire. I must say I am much more comfortable rebuilding transmissions than judging tire performance. Your help to greatly appreciated.

Sure, anytime. Keep in mind these are just my opinions.....I've had lots of great experience with S02s and S03s in the past, and the RE-01Rs (all Bridgestones) are the newest (and supposedly) best iteration of that family.

Just spend some time on the Tire Rack site, there's tons of useful data if you click on all the tabs.

No offense but you guys seem to be after different goals. Rich is looking for a top of the line tire that can get him best traction and performance for his elevated HP levles and tire sizes to fit his big 18 inchers. Doc is looking for a good performance street tire that also has good wet weather capabilities.

This is true. It is hard to get a handle on all around wet dry performance. I figure asking is free and I know goodfella is a good guy, it is me that is not clear.

Well, both tires I linked you to are decent in the wet. The goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3 might be a better choice for you, very good in the dry and wet and they have a higher treadwear, so they'll last longer. You can find those on the tire rack too.

Wear ratings aren't a very good indication of tire life, since it's not a tested number, it's up to the manufacturer to set.

Generally speaking the higher cost and quality of brand name, the longer the tire will live for a given wear rating. Take my experience for example. I've gotten about 3 summers of commuting, the occasional long drive, 2 days on track each plus some autocrosses out of 2 sets of cheaper tires in the 280-320 wear rating range (Falken FK-451 and Kumho SPT). I used them both untill they were well below the wear bars. Now I'm using some Bridgestone RE-070's that still have tons of meat left on them (maybe 1/4 worn) after a full summers driving, including a few longer trips (no track days on them, got some R's now). Guys in STi's (OE tire for that car) are getting up to 30k miles out of them, and they're a 140 wear rating tire. I personally know an STi owner who would have gotten at least 20k miles plus lots of track days out of them (he's an instructor with the BMWCCA). The RE-070's aren't hard though, they're very grippy and very tolerant of track abuse. So you can have it all (to a point), tread life and grip, but you'll pay for it.

Welp, after an endless/excessive amount of personal debate and lots of good advice, here's what I decided on:

Ordered brand spankin' new Fikse Profil 5s in 17x9 and 17x10 wrapped in Toyo RA-1 255/40 and 275/40 rubber.

Yup, pretty damn similar to what I had before, just much nicer and newer . Now I need to get rid of the other set of Profil 5s.... anyone want a cherry set of track wheels in 18x10 +50 all around ?

The goods were shipped out to Mr. Monsen's place in PA and he already took delivery. Despite the nasty weather I plan to drive out there tomorrow and meet Bryan/Sloasfk here on the forum to deliver my currently mounted track wheels to him (he bought them a bit ago) and mount my new babies.....pics to follow

P.S. If anyone wants a killer deal on brand new Fikses, PM me. My source was (relatively) reasonably priced.
