Darn 14 inch wheels

Does anyone know what the widest tire I can fit on my stock SE wheels? I have 185/70/r14's on there now and they just seem like they are really thin. Also I would like a lower profile tire. So what is the number of a wider lower profile tire that will fit on my wheels?

Will a 205/60/r14 fit on my wheels? Anyone? Also has anyone heard of sumitomo tires, I was looking for tires on www.tirerack.com when I came across them. They seem like a good deal and they got good ratings on there survey thing

Ok did the math, a 185/70R14 tire is 24.192" high and a 205/60R14 is 23.69" high, so if the width is ok your good to go!!!

I have the rotary telephone tires on my 87. I have P215/60/R14's on it.

They work out great. I tried to squeeze 225s on but it had about a quarter of an inch before touching the suspension.

Good Luck,,

remember, wider is better!!!!

Brando thanks for the help I will probably get that size. Now if anyone knows the answer to my second question, I would be happy to hear it. Has anyone ever had any experiances with Sumitomo tires?? are they a good tire for the money, or should I keep looking?

Paul C I was thinking about doing the 5-lug conversion, how difficult is it? How much do you want for everything?

I have a complete 5 lug conversion for sale. 2 bolts on the front.... and swap brake lines from a 5lug car, 2 on the the rear (after removing halfshafts) stock brakes lines connect, and then bleed the brakes.... a few hours worth of work and you are done.

my contact email:
gnx7@hotmail.com

Bigger brakes with 4 piston calipers.... and you can run either 15" GXL rims or 16" T2 rims or buy your own.

Look at the parts being parted out... that may be a good deal too.

Hmm, you really should not mount anything wider than 195 on your rims. If i remember right, the 14 inch is only 5.5 wide. You are lucky to have a shop mount 215s for you since it is a hazard

I went to TireRack in Southbend, IN and they installed 215/60's on my 14s but also told me that I could not go any wider than that. Buying new tires soon 205/60R14 Yokohama AVS ES100 going smaller cause my car is lower now as well as other things. Yokos are the only Ultra High Performance Summer tire made for 14 in rims, well company with a good name they will stand behind.
