It's because...they can.
Honda parts are also widely available. Much larger market.
All others makes, aren't as popular.

Also, most "Honda Coilovers" are just adjustable sleeves with crappy soft springs for the stock shocks (I know a guy who bought some for a Celica a few years back). You ever see those Hondas bouncing off their bumpstops going down the streets? When you start getting into properly valving shocks for the proper spring rates, the price dramatically goes up.

If you were to look into the true performance coilovers for Hondas and other cars, you'll see the prices aren't that different. Take a look at the Tein line and you'll see the prices for their "real" coilovers are not that different between the car lines.

Even at 700 for a Coilover you're not getting something great.

You might as well go Shock and Lowering spring.

Yea, you want everything for nothing. Not gonna happen. QUALITY coilovers cost well over $1k, no matter what kind of car you've got, they've got lots of small, high precision parts, high pressure seals and are by nature low volume, all of which makes them expensive to produce, which makes them expensive to buy.

You can get some crappy eBay coilover sleeves for pretty cheap, but that's different. Coilover sleeves and coilovers are different things.

$700 is crappy.
good set up 1k more easily. 1k is still kind of budget range.

anyway.

dont forget to budget
alignment $80 or so + corner weigh $200 or so

depending on how low you go and what car, you may need more supsension mods to keep proper geometry. budget and plan accordingly. do it right or don't do it at all.

you can however get a USED, good condition, coilover set for around 1000 + or -$.. don't expect anything less than 1600$+ for a quality new set tho...
I lucked out and got my kei office's for 1100$

Yea, but you've got to be VERY careful buying used. You could end up spending a lot more that way if they're blown, dead, weak, leaking, etc, because rebuilds and all that shipping is expensive. Expect to spend around $150 per shock for a basic rebuild, plus two way shipping, which may be to Japan and back, so that's several hundred dollars, plus customs and brokerage (possibly).

Unless they're about $800+ under list I wouldn't bother because of all the risk plus the potential inconveniance with blown shocks.

i wouldn't even bother with used coilovers, unless you personally know and trust the person you are buying them from.
