Check out My Powder Coated Stock 3rd Gen wheels

Had them done a few weeks ago and am now posting pics for those interested in seeing them. Much easier to clean as they are high gloss finish but they do show every bit of dirt and grime of course. Well worth the 240 bucks I think. Added the New Bridgestone S-02's at the same time. Wow these tires are sweet! Enjoy. ZooZoom http://www.jimsusa.com/images/Mvc-013s/

I would have got them coated a metallic grey ... like gunmetal color. I can't say I'm a big fan of the white wheels on a black car look.

Yeah a gunmetal or copper would have looked a little better. IMO

Looks great, I love white on black. I was gonna do the same thing on my FC, I even bought FD rims to powder-coat, but then I changed my mind, sold the FD rims and bought some white Volk TE-37's, then I got laid off so I'm having to sell the Volks without even mounting them...thats the breaks.

The only problem with getting un metal or black on a black car is it looks dirty all the time. Even when its clean. Other color cars can get away with it better. I did the white because my first thought was the Volk TE-37's as well and this was the next best thing for a lot less money!!

very nice. good job. the white and black looks sleek, not ricey at all. after all it's a fd and you've got the ower to back it up.

I'm thinking of doing the same

I was thinking about having my 10th AE rims powder coated versus re-painted. I was quoted $300 to strip and coat. How does that compare to what your job ran you?

Well I paid exactly 220 bucks. I think I may have taken advantage of the guy but Thats what I ended up paying. My original finish was gone so there wasnt much to blast off. I had been using Mag cleaner on the with an acid base that etched the rest of whatever might have been remaining. 45 per wheel and 10 per wheel for sand/bead blasting. They did a nice job. Did the whole wheel including the inside and even under the bead. Of course I had to rattle can my center caps. I just now got them matched right. The pics I had used the dupli coat white wheel paint and it wasnt pure white. More like Butter nut. So I got a can from the local body shop that matched. I like them white. Also white is cheaper than any other color.

Thanx

I appreciate the info. The powder coating is the same here in Washington. It is the stripping that they wanted $30 each for.

The only problem with black or gunmetal is they look like you got a bad case of "the brake dust".

Love the black powdercoated FD wheels on a red car! That's the whole point with black wheels. They hide brake dust. Never have to clean them again

It's your car do what you like!!!

When it comes time for me to get wheels the only other person that I will consult is the boss (my wife), but mainly just on how much money I can spend on the wheels. If you like something then put it on your car, that's why we buy/make payments on these things: to mod them how we please.

I agree brad. Color is just personal taste. Just like with my car. Its black so it shows every but of dust and dirt and water spots and scratches but to me nothing looks better when its clean. Its all about preferance. Its the same way with body kits for me. I cant stand them but others may find them very apealing. I go for the more subtle accents.

What's the turnaround time for powdercoating? (excluding shipping of course)

I do like the black PC on the red FD.

I LOVE the red w/gunmetal combo. Very, very nice.

I've got black wheels on my Montego FD here (I don't have pics of the whole car yet, so don't ask -- I'll get some soon and post them):

Black wheels are nice because they don't show the brake dust as much. When I have some time to clean or wrench, cleaning always loses, so their lower-maintenance nature is a big plus for me. Plus, they just look mean and no-nonsense, and I like that. I'm even getting some (inexpensive) black wheels for my lowly daily-driver Integra (one of the stock wheels is bent).

You would be surprised that most areas have a shop hidden away that will do powdercoating. Just check the yellow pages under POWDERCOATINGS. Surprise. There were 4 shops within 15 miles that did them. Turn around time for me was 2 days. Shop around you would be surprised how many places do that kind of service. Its popular with the motorcycle guys.

I always wounder how they would look on a black 3rd gen. sweet!!!

did they coat your center caps too? I was going to have mine done but they where worried they would melt so I have gray caps.

I had been thinking of getting a montego and useing the white wheels on it.

I went to a body shop and they matched up a small can of spray paint for 5 bucks to match the white on the wheels. The pic doesnt show the correct color white on the center caps because I tried a can from Autozone that didnt match the first time. Now they match perfect.
