Centercaps...easily stolen?

Centercaps...easily stolen?
I just realized that the only thing keeping my centercaps on my Volks from being stolen are two small little rubber o-rings that secure them to the wheel! Is this why so many people don't have centercaps? I am worried I put them on wrong (from the outside rather than from the inside of the wheel).
