ccw wheel center caps??

i have a set of ccw wheels and they dont have any center caps for them. was wondering what people did as far as the center caps?? how do the ccw center caps work?? do they just pop in like all the others?? i have emailed ccw and the said that i have a race machined wheel, and said it was to close to the hub to accept center caps

What they say sounds accurate. My understanding is that the track wheels are located on the hub by the machined center directly. That would make it impossible for the track wheel to have a center cap and still clear the hub.

The street wheel center hole is milled larger to accommodate a center cap and the cap aligns the wheel on the hub.

I have the track wheel so I don't know how the center caps are retained in the wheel but they're probably just pressed in.

The CCW center caps don't work with the track wheels.

With the street wheels, the center cap is a sizeable hunk of aluminum that is hubcentric. The centerbore of the wheel is machined larger than the hub. The center cap goes in the back of the wheel and then you install the wheel on the hub. The centerbore of the wheel is tapered to retain the cap. You cannot install or remove the caps with the wheels already installed.

How about painting the bearing dust covers (what you see through the center bore on the track wheels) black or something?

A picture's worth a thousand words. Here's a "street" CCW wheel with the aluminum cap shown from the back.

As Max says, you can't have one if you have a "track" wheel as they are already hubcentric. The street wheel is hubcentric because of the cap.

FWIW, the Street cap is a machined "hunk" of aluminum that is tight fit into wheel hub. Very sturdy. Before getting my hands on the CCW's , I was under the impression that the caps were some sort of stamped metal cosmetic cap. Again they're not. Nice piece.

Cheers,
David
