CCW Rims

I've heard a lot about Fikse, Volk and CCW and feel I that CCWs are best for what I'm looking for, I like the design, the replacement part and weight. I have Apex'i N1 Coilovers and want the most rubber I can get underneath and am probably going to go 17" front and 18" rear. Can anyone tell me what this will cost me approximately? I've emailed CCW and have not recieved a quote. Anyone with the same or close to the same rims who can give me an estimate of what I'm looking for? Thanks a lot.

Call them... i've never had a problem getting a hold of John.

This is old, i'm sure prices have gone up, but it gives you an idea.

Max, care you post what you paid for your wheels??

As of earlier this year (Q1 '01), mesh 10 x 17s/18s in street trim (better fasteners and a centercap) were quoted to me by John Purner at $1800 for the set of four plus shipping from Florida. John said the 18s were slightly heavier.

I also asked about 9.5 x 16s in street trim. They were $1600 for the set of four. I was planning to mount 245/45-16 Hoosier R3S03s on the 9.5 x 16s. The tire bead-to-tire bead width measurement of unmounted 245/45-16 Hoosier R3S03s is 9 and 3/8 inches. Tread width is 10 inches. When mounted on my 8.5-inch wide (tire bead-to-tire bead) Kosei K1s the 245/45-16 R3S03 tread width is 9 an 11/16 inches. The extra 1-inch width from the CCWs would provide more stability to the tire, as well as adding another half-inch of tread width. Admittedly that's not that much more than what I have. The Koseis advantage are in weight and cost. The 8.5 x 16s are $169 each, and weigh 16 lbs each. No the Koseis are not pretty wheels, but they're racing wheels afterall, so who cares?

So afterall that research, I stayed with what I have.

They were a little over $1900 with shipping, but I also had my tires shipped to CCW and they mounted and balanced them. I got the 18x10" track wheels (no centercap & thus lighter). They are 46.4 lbs each with 285/30-18 BFG R1A tires mounted on them. They look good, work great, fit perfectly -- I am very happy with them. These seem to be the best bet if you are looking to get 17x10" or 18x10" all around.

One note about 17" versus 18": the 285/30-18 tire size is almost 1" smaller in diameter than the 275/40-17 size that most people put on 17x10" wheels. That results in a wheel/tire combo that is probably about the same weight as 17", but fits better and has less overall inertia (when you include the heavy part -- the tire).

I am a happy owner of CCW 18x10s. John has given me outstanding customer service, had the wheels to me in 4 days. In addition great customer srvice, while i was in daytona for the afternoon I recieved a tour of the shop and got a lesson in metalurgy and general maching techniques. I highly recommend CCW products and will likely by another set this winter for a set of rain tires. Good luck with what ever you purchase.

With the stock-style coil springs, you can fit CCW P4 mesh wheels in 9.5 x 17 with 50.4-mm offset, 3.27-inch front space, and 7.23-inch back space will work with 255/40-17 (Kumho V700 Victoracers) all the way around. John Purner verified my idea in this response from him today...

SleepR1--Can you do 9.5 x 17s in the mesh style in street trim
for a '93 Mazda Rx7 with H&R springs and Eibach comp
sway bars? I believe a 50.4-mm offset, 3.27 inch front space, and
7.23-inch back space will work all the way around
WITHOUT any clearance issues? Does this sound correct?

JP--fairly easy fittment

SleepR1--Are you using 17-inch wheel-centers for your 17s these
days? I recall that you used 16-inch wheel-centers
for the 17-inch P4 mesh wheels?

JP--P4's are the larger centers, P3's were the smaller (16" centers)

SleepR1--What is the ~weight of a 9.5 x 17, 50.4-mm offset mesh
wheel with hubcentric centercaps?

JP--should come in at 18.2-18.5

SleepR1--I'd be ordering a set of 5 wheels with 255/40-17 Kumho
V700 Victoracers on the wheels...shipping will be from Florida to Indianapolis IN 46217

JP--$130 for 5 with tires mounted

SleepR1--What are we talking in terms of cost?

JP--$450 per wheel + tires

John Purner: 888 577 0144

FWIW, JP gets the tires from Tire Rack and 255/40-17 Kumho V700s are $139 for full tread depth. Doing the arithmetic the total is $3075 for 5 CCW P4 Mesh in street trim with tires shipped from Florida to Indianapolis.

This will be my new spring/summer/autocross/road race setup, as I'm getting quite weary swapping to the Comp/Hoosier setup for track events. That and the handling with same size tires all the way around is just so sweet and neutral compared with the slight understeer with the asymmetric SSR Comp setup with 8.5 (fr) and 9.5 (rr) x 17s...

BTW, I'll order five because I carry around a full-size spare in case I ever get a flat Kumho V700 while on the road driving to the track event!

The CCW/Kumho setup will weigh ~10 more lbs per wheel/tire than my current SSR Comp/Hoosiers...the upshot is that the CCW/Kumho will weigh about the same as my current road setup--9 x 17 SSR Integral A2 with 255/40-17 Yokohama AVS Intermediate. Interestingly the Kumho V700 255/40-17 is about as wide as a Hoosier R3S03 in 275/40-17, with the Kumho being slightly shorter in overall diameter 24.8 inches vs. Hoosier 275/40-17 25.3 inches OD.

The advantage with the CCW/Kumho is that I'll be able to drive around on the Kumhos, as they're much sturdier tires than the Hoosiers, which are completely unstreetable due to the Hoosiers' very fragile construction (that's how the Hoosiers are made so light!).

As for laptimes, I'm hoping to be at least as fast as my current Comp/Hoosier setup...with the advantage of just being able to drive to the track with the wheels/tires already on the car!!!
