Can you test coilovers to see if they need to be rebuilt?

Ok I bought some Tein RA's less than 4 months ago with the intention of tracking my car. I have been in the process for the past couple of months of putting it together and getting it tuned to do just this. I was on the highway this past Sunday and I hit one of those dips that you run across occasionally that caused the car to compress and rebound. I was doing about 70 and it actually almost caused the rear tires to bounce slightly off the ground because I could hear the revs rise. After getting closer to home I noticed that the car was a bit sloppy and I thought it was on the drivers side front. At home I pushed down on that corner of the car and there was a weezing from the shock.

Could this mean that I need that shock rebuilt? Should I send all of them off to be checked because the same thing happened to all 4 due to the dip? Where do I send them?(Tein has no numbers on their site) A lot of questions but very few answers. I am a bit upset with the durability of these shocks if this is the case. I have less than 400 miles on them.

P.S. I know some of you might say I told you so about the coilovers but I truly only intend to track this car and only occasionally drive it on the street. I assume that either way the coilovers should hold up to some amount of abuse. Please help me solve this problem. I hope to have a short vid with sound up tomorrow of what the wheez sounds like. None of the other corners sound that way.

Look at the damper body carefully for leaks. That model coilover uses aluminum damper casing -- a VERY bad idea for a street driven car -- aluminum monotube, yikes!

While you are having Tein rebuild them (if that's the case and it probably is), I would get some reasonable rate springs and have the dampers revalved for them, if necessary. Running 900/900 springs on the track will be a humbling, nose-pointed-the-wrong-way experience...

Just to bring this thread back from the dead and see if there are any more opinions. Here is a videow/sound of the offending corner of the car when compressed. None of the other corners make any sound much less the squeek that this one does. http://www.3rdgenrx7.com/downloads/joel/I3010006.asf Right click and save as. It is not large just a good representation of what I heard.

Where did you set your compression/rebound damping adjustment?

I think your fight stOkfd

that sounds like a rubber suspension piece on the car. or the rubber mount at the top of the strut tower. definatley not the shocks. check lower/upper ball joints and steering linkage.
