to burnout or not to burnout?

I have an 88 T2 and I ordered a set of Nitto drag radials. Now Im gonna run them at 14 psi and was going to do a small burnout before I lineup at the track. Well I was reading in the last issue of SCC where they tested drag radials (BFG's) and said that the worked best without the burnout. So my question is should I warm up these Nitto's before I race ,or just do a quick spin to get all the loose **** off em'? Anybody with experiance would be cool. Thanx.

Too many variables - it really depends on your driving style and the car's set-up.&nbsp Some cars need no burn-out, and some recommend 10 seconds of smoky rubber...&nbsp Try both and see how your results are...

Nitto DR's need a smokey burnout. When you do the burnout the temperature of the tire changes and they become much stickier (you'll realize that after doing a burnout on them that they pick up all kinds of little pebbles if they are present).

I recommend 16-18psi. Start at 18psi and work your way down in pressure if you feel that it isn't working well.

You need a healthy burnout to make these work. Trust me.... I've run a few sets of them and without the burnout they don't even compare to the extra tackiness on the tire after doing a nice burnout.

They actually work better the more worn down they get.
Best of 1.78 60ft brand new..... and consistent 1.70-1.71 60ft after well broken in.

245/50/16 will fit on the stock T2 rims out back with no spacers etc.

The Nittos and BFG's both need to be heated up to properly work. SCC probably said they didn't need to do a burnout and tested them on a Metro. Your burnout depends on your hp and launching style, you have to find out what works best. Maybe some fellow TII owners have experience. If you drop the pressure to low it can hurt your top end.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. I would burn mine out till I could see smoke at my side window and it made a HUGE difference. The tire completely changes with a burn out. I burned mine out so good that when touched the tire it would leave a sticky resedue on my finger then after about 5 minutes they would be hard as a rock again just like new. You'll be picking rocks out of it later lol

Good Luck, and dont listen to those mags, they are either crazy or like mentioned earlier just werent testing a car with power.

Later,
STEPHEN
