Brake Rotor Question:

OK, its time to get some new rotors for my 7. I couldn't find much on a search but what I did find suggests getting slotted rotors instead of cross-drilled. So I was looking at Power Slot rotors and Brembo Rotors. I found the prices to be about the same on a website I was searching. I found a pair of Brembo slotted rotors for the front for $231.25, and the rear for $257.04 . And on the same site I found Power Slot rotors for about $ 115 a piece. So the price is pretty close to being the same. So which should I get? Any comments are appreciated. Josh

I think Powerslots are higher quality and I believe they are lighter as well.

Really, that surprises me. I figured that the Brembo name would have people chosing them over the Power Slot. Thanks for the info. And also are these rotors stainless or are they going to rust around the hub like my stock ones?

They will rust around the hub. Primer them in black /silver or whatever first.

You can get Brembro Slotted and X Drilled, some people and reselelrs offer them but I believe they are really cross drilled after the fact.

I've had a set before. I personally think X-Drilled look some much better but Slotted are supposedly better for performance so I got both

I had no problems in about 6k miles but then I wrecked the car (brakes not at fault here...). I've recovered the rotors and theya re in excellent condition still. I think for non racing applications it is a cosmetic thing at most.

Just to clarify, I meant Slotted and Cross Drilled on the same rotor.

So you had slotted - cross drilled brembos right? From what I found searching on this site it says that the cross drilled rotors may crack easily. Is this true? I don't run auto-x or anything I just want a good performance rotor. On RX7 store they have their brake kit which has Brembo slotted/cross-drilled rotors and brake pads with stainless lines. But I really don't need a kit like that. So I need to decide between the Power Slot or Brembos. I think I will stay with the slotted rotors though. These rotors don't need upgraded calipers do they? Will the stock ones work with these rotors? Thanks for the help

What about those slotted and cross drilled rotors for $90 a piece on RX7 store? Are they drilled and slotted by a different company than Brembo? And are they good?

So are those $90 ones on RX7 store Brembos? I think I might just go with them. I don't want to spend too much because I also need to get some new shocks also.

The Powerslots are cadmium plated, so it will resist rusting for quite awhile. The plating will be scraped off over the swept area and will develope oxidation when wet, but will naturally get scrubbed off the next time you drive (pretty obvious, but hey....) Anyways, mine (powerslots) have not developed any rust (besides the swept area) around 'hat's, edge of rotors, etc - have had them on for just over a year, but very low mileage.

If they are for street driving only buy any rotor you like. For racing, stay away from the x-drilled and go either solid or slotted only.

I seem to remember that PowerSlot doesn't make their own rotors but source them from either Brembo or another company who's name I don't remember. They then slot and plate them.

I've had the Poweslots on the front for about 14 track days and they've developed some micro cracks on the surface, but nothing like you'd see with drilled rotors. Drilled rotors will crack completely through the disc.
