Brake - Master cylinder? Please help
I posted this in "technical" section also.
Brake - Master cylinder problem
Hi All,
I installed speed bleeders today. Tested the brakes with the engine off, and it was very firm. Started the engine, I could feel that the brake slowly sinking to the floor. I also heard a noise that sounded air escaping near the brake pedal every time i pumped the brake.
Took it for a test drive, and it seemed to stop ok.
1. Is my master cylinder dying?
2. Do you know what the cost and where to get one if i put it myself?
3. Is it a big job?
Any help will be greatly appreicated.

Do you have the shop manual? There is a test in there that is useful to determine whaich component is bad.
The master just went bad in my '90 (140K miles) and the pedal would go to the floor unless I pumped it a few times. I bought a reman one from Pep Boys for $45---lifetime warranty. Changing it out is only about 1/2 hour, but bleeding the brakes is what takes all the time. The speed bleeders really help.
