Bought a set wheels but need help on tire selection

Hey I just bought these wheels recently for my 87' Turbo II...they are 17x8 with 30mm offset in the front and 35mm offset in the rears. I figured I would turn to you guys for more advice and opinions other than just my one friend who I guess knows what he is talking about. He tells me there is a way to fit 275's on a 8 inch rim (I think this is not possible) because from what I know as of now I shouldn't have a problem with 235/40/17 up front and 255/45/17 in the rear maximum according to 1010tires website, then again I'm new to this. Also it would be cool if you guys could recommend me to some good summer tires I could wrap these wheels in.

275's on an 8" rim has been done, but it's not a good idea. You should have at least a 9" rim for those. 275mm = 10.8", so you can see that it'd be a big stretch to get those on. Besides, if you do get them on then the sidewall will be pulling the tread in on the edges, reducing the contact patch. It's best to stick to the tire manifacturer's reccomendations for wheel widths.

As for good summer tires it depends on your budget, and what you're looking to get from them in terms of life, performance, noise, ride, etc. Depending on your priorities any particular tire could be wonderful, or terrible.

With 235/40/17's up front there's a possibility of rubbing, it'd be safer to go with a 225/45/17. Whether or not a tire will rub will depend on your suspension, ride height, what tire's chosen (not all 235's are the same width), and so on.

even if you 'could' fit a 275 on an 8, it would look stupid, and not even all the tire would be on the ground. I personally wouldn't put any bigger than a 225 on an 8... of course this is coming from someone that puts a 215/40 on a 17x9... lol. but no bigger than 245 for sure. look at the tire manufacturers suggested wheel width for the tire.

and, you putting the lower offset wheel in front? normally that would go in back to fill out the fender a little better.... or are you just worried about rubbing in front?

I suggest doing a 225/45/17 front and a 245/45/17 rear as a worst case scenario. Otherwise just run the same size front and rear.
