Avon slicks for solo??

I have the opportunity to buy some Avon slicks mounted on 13x7 wheels. The rear slicks are approx 9" wide the front are approx. 7" wide. They will be on my slightly modded fc N/A (86, intake, porting, exhaust) .They`ll cost me $650 CDN. I`d like too use them for solo, but I`d like more opinions/experience from people who may have gone this way.

My question is are they too much grip for my car?? Or any other problems??

slicks will put you in Mod class under most (if not all) iteration of the CACC GCR. They will help (unless it's raining) but your car better be already at its optimal setup to take advantage of them. Otherwise, R-compounds will still be super quick.

I`m already in street prepared , while I do have some tweaking to do, I`m getting slaughtered. Everyone else has some kind of r-compound . I need tires , either r-compounds or some wicked street tires, my old tires are no good anymore.

edit:
checking the wcma site, I`d be in mod class!! BOO!!!!
Back to the drawing board. Thanks Hedgehog!!

suck it up and get a nice set of R-compounds. in Canada, order them from www.talontire.com. No provincial taxes. Also, when you email them, the prices are lower than the web's.

That and sign up for a driving school, made a huge difference for my times.

BTW, i'm in SP too (borderlining C-mod cuz of my ricey wing).

I`d like to do a driving school but being a poor student, I can`t afford it right now. I need tires no matter what, my old BFG comp T/A are very worn. I`ll look at the talontire website and see what they got.
