Anyone with experience with Hankook RS2-Z212?

Hi all!

I need to replace the tires on my 87 TII on stock S5 TII meshies. I'm thinking about the Hankooks but don't really know whether or not they are as grippy as they advertise. I've read that they are extremely sticky, but have soft sidewalls, hence slower turn-in response, any can confirm or deny that?

Are they on par with RT215? That's what I have right now, so I really don't want anything with less grip than that.

I know Kumho MX's are awesome tires too, anyone have any comparison between Kumho and Hankooks?

Thanks!

I recently got the RS-2's on my FD and so far i love 'em. Yes, the sidewall is fairly soft, but other than that i have no complaints whatsoever. They're a good bit stickier than my previous Ecsta Supra 712's, but i've never had a set of RT215's so i can't compare there. So far it's been one of the grippiest tires i've ever had and at a very good price. From what i can tell it has more dry grip than the MX, but slightly less grip in the wet. I've only had them on track once and it was while it was pouring rain...they're definately not the tires for those kinds of track conditions. I'll be taking them on several track events next month though, so i could probably tell you more about them then.

Two thumbs up from me, but like i've said...i've never had a set of 215's so i can't directly compare.

Hey, thanks for the response man!

So basically, you're saying it's stickier than the MX in the dry, but not as good in the wet?

How bad is it in the wet exactly?

So what size are you running? I was thinking of going with 225/50/16 on my stock rims, but then I thought of the soft sidewalls, and wondered if it's better to go lower in profile, like maybe 225/45/16? I know it's going to throw off the speedometer, which I really don't mind, any thoughts on that?

Happy to help.

^ That's exactly what i'm saying. The MX is a good all around tire and you can't go wrong with it. But if you really want more grip in the dry, go with the RS2. It's not horrible in the wet, but with my stiff suspension (which always makes it worse in the rain) i was sliding around pretty good. Now for street use i'd say it doesn't really matter. If you plan on tracking the car on wet days, you might want to consider the MX. Otherwise...go with the RS2's.

I'm running 245/45-16's on my FD. I don't think you'll be able to tell a whole lot of difference between the sidewall on the 50 or 45, but it could make it a little better. If you have over 200whp i'd say stick with the meatier 50 series, but if you're relatively stock you might benefit from a shorter sidewall and smaller tire (slightly better acceleration). At least that's my .02.
