anyone ever use -AN brake lines? Having some major prob.

Well, I finally started to work on my braking system and now can not get the damn lines to seal up. I dumped the whole ABS system so I basically have one line going to the rear and two to the front, just the basics. I converted the metric fittings to -4an male fittings. Those sealed up well. The an lines just won't seal up to the male an part. I'm tightening them pretty hard and they just won't seal. Are an lines bad to use for brakes or something? I think the banjos on the master cylinder is leaking as well. The banjo bolts are tightened pretty hard as well. The mc is made of aluminum so I know not to go too crazy.

Is there some type of sealant that would help with my problem, or are sealants a big no for brake lines?

You should not be using regular braided hose for brake lines! Earl's (and others) make hose specifically for brake lines: http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...s/EPP/EPP.html

All NASCAR cars use AN-3 or 4 for their brake lines.
Is it possible that the adapters you got are not AN but 45 degree flare adapters?

Please post pics of your fittings and/or list the brand name.

Especially for brakes, the lines should have been pressure tested before installing on the vehicle. Are the lines leaking at the hose end or at the fitting?

Also, you should NOT tighten A/N fittings very hard. If you are using a normal wrench (not A/N) and cranked on it really hard, it's possible you ruined the fittings.

OK, I got the AN fittings to stop leaking but now the banjos are leaking. Seems the banjo crush washers are made big and had some slop in them causing them to have an open area. Going to get Mazda crush washers and see how that goes
