Any company that sells just big rotors for an FD?

I'm trying to keep my budget low for brakes since I'll hardly ever take advantage of them.. Just talked to a friend today with an RX8 and he has big rotors, stock calipers. I was thinking of getting an M2 big kit but now think big rotors would be perfect for me. Anyone know of a company that makes them?

Should I even try to attempt making a set of my own with custom hats?

You can't use the stock calipers with bigger rotors! At the least, they have to be modified ala Mandeville.

Unless you are regularly tracking the car, there is zero need to upgrade the brakes. Zero.

As far as "budget" brakes go, you can get the full 99+ RZ setup for about $1900 from Mazda Motorsports. Just the Stoptech fronts are $1900, which are also a very good deal.

#2. You can't upgrade to bigger calipers/rotors without 17" wheels, and some of those have clearance issues.

If not tracking the car, just get better tires.

two peice rotors and SS braided brake lines will fit your budget.

Yes, I am aware I would have to widen the stock calipers to fit thicker rotors.

I'll be doing alot of drag racing and some auto-x, so even though I can live without it, it's not gonna hurt me in any way.

When drag racing, I'll hopefully trap at over 140mph, have you tried slamming the brakes at that speed? I know even trapping at 125 is a bit spoongy.

I won't auto-x as much as I do drag, but when I do,this will just be something in my advantage, right? Who knows, I might get hooked on auto-xing and do it more frequently

So I guess there are no kits out there than? I'll see if I can make something. BTW, I have 19's so it will benifit in appearance as well

i have to ask. how much money is in your car!!!

$1900 for the RZ setup? with that money, you can get a way better custom wilwood setup.

I think those big brake kits are rip offs really. Just find a wilwood caliper that you like and design a bracket yourself then send it out to a machineshop to get made. A lot of shops make custom rotor hats, too, so u can get big rotors. i would look into the wilwood superlight 6 for your car. make sure the calipers are lug mount and not radial mount.

you can do that if you want to keep your stock calipers too.. just get a custom bracket and rotors with hats.

Then there's something wrong with your braking system. When was the last time you flushed your fluid and bled your brakes?

I've slammed the brakes from 160 and nearly torn my face off. OK, a small exaggeration, but not much... Trev's G-Tech Pro logged 1.1g of braking force. The stock brakes are more than ample for a single or a couple stops from high speed.

On nopistons, Chuck Huang (Rotary Extreme) is talking about making a rear "big brake" kit with CNC brackets to space the stock calipers out far enough to use '99 spec rotors. You could use the Mandeville big brake kit to re-use your front calipers and run bigger rotors in front if they're still selling their kit. I'm sure the stock rotors look a little pathetic with those 19s.

I took my FD a couple times over 130 and it doesn't stop worth ****. I remember because I almost couldn't stop for a red light (back when I was young BTW ). Even with my brother's FD, it has a really hard time stopping at the end of the track going 125. I was running the track every 5 min I would say and about the 5th or 6th run, I could start to feel alittle bit of fade.

I was planning on making my own fronts but then got a price quote of $900 for custom made rotors and hats. For that price I would just spend the extra and get the M2 kit for $1500 and it comes with stainless lines and fluids. Mandeville doesn't make there kits anymore, none that I can find.

And yes, my rotors look silly with these wheels

Well, if you want a pair of new 13.0" Coleman front rotors for a decent price, I'm going to have Precision Brakes make a set of front rotors to match my rears. One of these days...

I thought you bought a set of AP fronts? I've been trying to find Precision Brake Company's website or even phone# with no luck. I was begining to think they went out of business. When are you going to have yours made?

I did. The AP fronts come with Coleman rotors.

Oh, I see.. Just gave them a call and it looks like I'll be buying some rotors and hats from them. Would you happen to know the offset of your rear hats by any chance?

there was a kit out there use stock caliper but bigger rotors
um ... i forgot what kit is that tho
