Another fitment question

alright...I'm buying a set of wheels (mostly just for looks as I don't drag, auto x or anything, but decent performance is a +) The wheels are 17x7 and +40mm offset. What's the best size tire to run all around on these wheels for steet performance and looks? (88 tII)

Alright, been reading up some. 17x7 with a 40mm offset is apparently stock. However, I'm looking at another set of wheels someone here on the forum is selling and they are 17x7 witha 42mm offset. My question is will a 225/45/17 tire fit with a 42mm offset up front. Some say you can and some say you can't. Also, what would be the widest tire I could run on the rears with a 17x7 42mm offset wheel?
