'99 Type RS spare wheel/tire
Anyone know how I can get a 17-inch spare wheel/tire ('99 Type RS FD Rx7)? I have the '99 Type RS brakes and require 17-inch wheels. The stock US spec spare will not fit over the '99 Type RS brakes...

When I talked to Mazda Comp about it they said they could get it but it would take awhile.
Did they tell you different?
Have you tried forcing them to order it?
I want one myself with tire.
If you are ordering one count me in.
Have you sourced the tire?
It will need to fit into the spare tire hub.
I have not decided on my brake upgrade just yet but I will most likely go with whatever fits under the RS spare wheel.
I am hoping some of the larger 13" rotor kits will fit under it.
If not, then it's RS brakes for me.
As long as you can get the tire, then perhaps CCW or HRE etc. can build you the correct size wheel.

resurected from the past. But I can't find the recent post that someone asked for a quote on RS/RZ sapre wheel, I seem to remember approcx. $700 for 17 x 4 wheel and spare.
An alternative is to get a wheel from a current production car sold in US.
I one needs dia match, bolt match and similar offset. Only high offset wheels in US narket are on fwd. I cheacked my Acura TL Type -S spare and it meets all three.
The Type-S uses 17in wheels to fit over the Brambo brakes and 310mm rotors, has a 45mm offset and a 114.3x5 bolt.
It is a nice alumium (sorry not yellow Enkei) spare in size T145/70-17 (~ 25 in dia same as ours) so should fit, sorry i have not tried it yet, but it must be alot cheaper assuming you don't buy the car just to get a spare.

A mate of mine used the spare tyre from an RX8 which happens to look exactly like the RS spare tire (Both are made by Enkei). I've got one but its in the boot of my car.

Yes I know this is an old tread, but I thought I would post what I have found on this min-spare option.
I have a few projects for my FC that just may actually get done next spring since the parts will work much better on the car rather that just sitting on the shelf in the garage. They included installing the Miata T2 Torsen LSD in the n/a differential, the Mandeville front brake upgrade with 2-pcs rotors from the 350Z Brembo package and the now discontinued Corksport rear brake upgrade which used FD RS/RZ parts rotors. The one thing I will need when all these are installed is a mini spare that is both closer to the same height/diameter as the 225/45-17 (25.03" tall) or 255/40-17 (24.97"tall) tire sizes and that has more room for the larger brakes.
After doing some research I also came to the same concussion that the Acura TL 6-spd & Type S models had a spare that seems to find the bill. It is a 17" aluminum rim with enough space for the Acura's Brembo brakes and has a 145/70-17 tire which is 25.00" tall. It has both the 5x114.3mm lug pattern and a slightly larger hob bore ID at 64.1mm vs. the FC RX7 59.6mm so it will fit and bolt on the FC hubs. It has almost the same offset as FD fitment SSR type C rims that I run on the car now and so it should work with the 22mm rear and 17mm front bolt-on spacers that I have to run with those rims.
I picked up the Acura TL 17" mini-spare (almost a misnomer) and after cleaning it up I tried it out on the back end of my FC. I had to take that rim off anyways to fix a slow leak. With the 22mm thick bolt-on sparer in the rear the spare fits perfectly. I have not tried it on the front, but I am sure it will also fit there as well with the 17mm thick bolt-on spacers.
The factory FC 15" steel mini spare and 135/70-15 tire weighs 25.5 lbs while the Acura TL 17" aluminum mini spare with the 145/70-17 tire weighs 30.0 lbs. I also pickup a factory aluminum scissor jack which only weighs 3.0 lbs to replace the factory steel scissor jack which weighs 6.5 lbs. The net change is a 1.0 lbs increase which is not too bad.
The only downside is that there is no way that the Acura TL mini spare will fit down into the FC spare tire well. I will have to keep the spare on the hatch floor and secure it with the luggage tie downs. That is a major bummer and most folks would not put up with the inconvenience. But the FC hatch area doesn't hold that much to begin with so I don't see it as a major issue. This is not my only car and I don't need it to haul bags of mulch from Home Depot either - my golf bag, well now that maybe another matter. Plus with the 30 lbs flat on the hatch floor it is small improvement in handling over 25.5 lbs hanging off the back end of the car in terms of polar moment of inertia.
I am not sure how well the Acura TL 17" mini spare will work on a FD or RX8, but it works great on my specific FC.
