87 suspension upgrade ???help????

I am looking to get an 87 FC for my drift car (already have my norm car). But I was wondering about what type of suspension would be best. Any tips or comments?? thanks all!

1st sort the cars stock components.

1. Bushings.
2. Endlinks.
3. Toe eliminators.

Then.

4. Strut tower braces.
5. and or cage.

Strut tower braces and or a rear cage. The strut braces and or cage will let the suspension you chose work best.

Then buy the best suspension within your budget. This will take some research as to what you want from the car.

There are suspension setups with rates that are set up specifically for drift from companies such as Kei office. They are probably great but don't let people tell you that you have to have adjustable perch coilovers or you have to have top mounts, etc. Adjustable perch coilovers are great but not essential. A set up tokicos and some springs will work great.

It is much better to learn to drift on a stock or closer to stock suspension. I learned to drift that way and it makes things much nicer when you upgrade to better suspesion. The first, best and most cost effective upgrade for drifting is you the driver. It is actually much more difficult to learn on a car that is running say a full tien suspension with chassis braces, etc. A highly prepped car will transition very quickly compared to a lower prepped car. The car is less user friendly.

I drifted my stock suspension into the ground for learning. When I blew my shocks I upgraded to a shock and spring combo. I don't think my skill level warrants a adjustable perch setup yet. Mid next summer I will upgrade.

I learned soooo much drifting the stock setup. The body roll and pitching of the car help you understand what the car is doing. Now that I have upgraded the suspension I can really see and feel the difference. I have so much more control and my inputs are much more confident since I have a firm understanding on what the car is doing, what it want's to do, and what I need to do to make it maneuver the way I want it too. The quicker transitions are an asset now.

I hope that helps. Pop buy DriftUnderground.com for more tips. There are drivers there that are much better drifters than I am. Good guys.

Llew.
