5 lug conversion on 1st gen?

I have a 1982 Mariah mode 1 RX7. It currently has 225/50/15 in front and 255/45/15 at the rear. On PLS (French, might not be available in the US) three piece rims.
However, the 255/45/15 is no longer available so the closest tyre-size possible would be a 225. And this might require altering the rims (putting a smaller "ring" on it, making the rim smaller). Doing all this work will be about the same price as a decent set of wheels so there's no point.
Since I have a complete FC (5 lug) in parts anyway, I was wondering about conversing the car to the FC 5 lug bolt pattern, allowing more choice for rims. I knwo it has been done, some people have FC or FD wheels on their 1 st gens. But I cannot find a website about it, even if I know some excist. One guy had a rather detailed how-to on it, but don't remember where that was. So if someone could point the directions...
Thanks,
Bart

hmm... I've only really seen one car with 5 bolt 1st gen wheels... Unfortunately there is no real write-up or how to out there..

there are two ways. 1st, get your brake disks custom drilled and place studs in them to match teh pattern you want. that's kinda shady and not exactlythe safest way, but it will work per say..

the other way involes swapping a bunch of parts from one car to another with a fair amount of fab work involved. I'm sure it can be done, but you're gonna be on your own as far as the details of how to do it.

Good luck!

I've actually seen a few, but not many. Redrilling to the pattern I want is not really the thing I'm after. I'm going to take a good look at both cars and then decide. If I go through with it, I will of course post about it...

that would be cool... as I'm sure many woudl apprecite...

Now if you wanted to go to the GSL-SE pattern, that isn't all that difficult to do and still gets you a wide variety of wheel choices sinec Accords/preludes have the same pattern... It sure made my life easy.

My concern is not only with the wheels, but also, and more important, with the brakes. I'm planning a FD engine swap, so 300-350hp will be in reach. Obviously, brakes will have to be up to the task. Looking through RX7 catalogs, you can easily find some good FC or FD brake rotors/callipers. But no FB stuff. So the swap would give me the opportunity to choose the right brakes for the car. Currently braking power is real good, with FD callipers on ventilated and perforated discs up front and 84-85 brakes at the rear. But I'd like the car to be able to grow more. So the FC or FD hubs would allow more options.
