TurboPete runs 275's on 18-inch wheels all around, but he has custom CCW wheels with a high (45 or 50) offset.

BTW: I run 265/40R16 all around (Supra 16x9 ET50 wheels).

I think the rubbing problems have more to do with the height than the width. 17" tires don't come in a 35 aspect ratio so it will probably be easier to fit wide 18" wheels up front.
