1985 GSL getting ready for 5.0 swap, what wheels and tires?
1985 GSL getting ready for 5.0 swap, what wheels and tires?
the 12a has 190,000 on her, Im sure it's been rebuilt once or twice already. Gona get ready for a 5.0 when she does crap out but so far still running well so it may not be for a while, but I want to get her ready and make her pretty at the same time
I will say I've searched and searched to no avail. I'll keep looking too so no flames please.
*EDIT* Well now, after digging via search seems the 12a rear end is stronger than a GSL-SE, just get good axles. To heck with a ford 9 inch....but finding 15-16 inch wheels that will fit that dont rub in the bolt pattern, will that be hard? Hummm anyone point me in the correct direction? Brakes too?
Uhh honestly I found just about everything else I was looking for, I just deleted a big post LOL. It seems the GSL 12a is the most perfect swap for a carbed 5.0 or 351! Hahah I think fate is smiling on me today.
Brings be back to my point though, what breaks, what wheels?

Okay I can't edit anymore.......would buying a GSL-SE brake/hub/axles/rotors and kit be worth it vs trying to find wheels for the crappy 4x110 bolt pattern? If its not a bolt on kit then I'd really fail if any fab or machine work would be needed. I cant find any kits via google either and beleive me im searching high and low. I found a link in the archives but its dead ;(
Sorry I'm a wheel and tire nub.
Lets say ..........would these fit with 205-50-15s? http://tinyurl.com/28ecv2j Maybe toss some 215s?

Well seems I found what I'm lookin for, only took 3 hours of searching!
I've found the best way to do things is to K.I.S.S or "Keep it simple, stupid." The less monkeying and modding I have to do the better. I'd rather go 16" or even 17" inch but I'm to mild mannered to risk rubbing or bad offset messing up the handling.
But for grins, can I get conformation of the above post? Need a 2nd dr.'s opinion
Whats the widest tire I could throw on a 15x7?
Offset is still killin me...Honestly just post a link to freakin 15, 16, or 17in wheels and tires and I'll send you a cincinnati favorite in the mail, busken bakery happy-face cookies. They're the best ever.

Oh, mods can pretty much delete this thread, already ordered the very popular rewinds so I don't have to use spacers or anything like that. sigh, this entire thread looks like the diary of a madman
One thing that would make your life easier as far as fitting the wheels, and may even be necessary with the engine swap (due to the heavier weight) would be coilovers.
That would allow you to set the ride height in order to clear the larger tires, and since you choose whatever spring rate you need you could get something to take care of the increased engine weight.
www.re-speed.com Has a lot of really great stuff, and they've dealt with engine swaps and can tell you what you'll need to keep the handling and ride up to snuff.
