Your question doesn't make any sense. You don't HAVE to change the ride height of the car...

What's the width and offset of the rims and what tire sizes did you go with? The only 40-profile tires that will work with 18s will be a 225/40 or 235/40. Any other size will be too tall.

true, i have 18's on my fd with 40 series front and a 1" drop and it hits the fender, itll bend your top fender lip, so id advise not dropping it and just get the '93 R1 suspension, wich i have, there just as good.

One of the keys to getting rid of the fender gap without rubbing is to limit the suspension travel. You can limit travel by getting a stiff anti-sway bar and stiff springs. Coil-overs with 550F/450R-ish springs and a stiff front sway bar (check ScuderiaCiriani.com for details on what bars are available) should allow you to drop the car a bit while minimizing the chance of rubbing. I think most of the stock-style springs are likely to increase the chances of rubbing since they aren't very stiff and sometimes drop the ride height a lot.

M2 makes a set, however, that are 550F/450R in the stock style if you want to keep your expenses down. I don't know how much they drop the car, but I would expect that they would give a substantial drop. Koni sport shocks have a 3-position spring perch that can be used to adjust the ride height a little with stock-style springs.

You car will ride very stiff with 550/450 springs, 18" wheels, and short sidewalls. This is something that just goes with the territory. I personally hate having to baby my cars at all, so I wouldn't run a setup that I had to creep around everywhere just to keep it from rubbing. But people do it, so it is possible to run relatively soft springs with minimal fender gap and big wheels.
