18 vs 17 wheels on FD
I really am having a hell of a time finding good wheels for my car. It seems most of the wheels available in 8 width are 18" wheels, not 17". If my car sees the track it will be on my stock wheels, not these. STILL....I don't want to have my car noticeably slowed by putting larger wheels on it.
Can somebody shed some light onto this debate for me?

8 inch width? Why would you want that? When I go and invest money on rims I'd bu00y something wider. The stock 8 inch width juts isn't enough to put down a decent amount of rubber when the horsepower levels climb. I'm planning to get somnething like 17x9 front and 17x10 rear with like 235 front tires and 275 rear. Just going t a larger diameter rim will have almost no performance benefit and will ride harsher.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
here is my opinion,
since you are still keeping the stock rims for the track, there is no use for 17" rims. you already have ultra-lightweigh rims (stockers) so why waste your money and only get plus 1. get 18" for the style and look. dont worry about weight cause you wont be racing on them.
just my .02.

Most wheels over 17" are going to slow you down, if its noticable or not just depends on you, I can feel very small diffences but thats just me. I've seen guys loose ALOT of time at the dragstrip over large 18" wheels.
If you get SUPER light wheels you'll probably be ok but they cost a fortune!!!
18's also ride muc harder because you get a very low profle tire with hardly so side wall to absore bumps and cracks
I'd get light weight 17's that are wide

Here's what you do. Give me a PM and buy my stock 17" chrome wheels. They have 245/45/17 in the front and 255/40/17 in the rear but looks like you can easily go wider. I just want to get rid of these wheels. I'd even trade you for your stokers
I have 18x10 in the rear with 285/35. I have a hell of a time spinning on these, they are either grippy or I loss some power going that big.

Actually depending on your wheel/tire combinations the 18 set can be lighter. I have 18x8 ft, 18x9 SSR Integrals with Yokohama AVS sports. The 17" combo actually weighed about 1.5lbs more than the 18". The main weight difference was in the tire, so you need to take that into considerations when checking the weight. Choose the tire and check the weights.
