18" 3000GT wheels on my FD....what tires?

HI,
When I purchased my FD it came with Chrome 18" 3000GT wheels on it...
I just put new tires on the rear (Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/kumho/ku_712.jsp) But I only got the 235/40 because I didn't have all that much $$$ and the guy talked me out of wider ones so I could rotate the wheels.
Well I don't care about rotating the wheels, and I now need to replace the front tires.
I am going to purchase new tires (wider) put them on the back, put the Kumhos I have on the front.
But I don't know what to get, and I am not sure how to choose. I use it as a daily driver, but I want something that will proform well. Yea, basically the perfect tire.
I do live in Missouri, so we occationally get ugly weather (snow). So I don't know how much of a factor that is in tire choice.
If you can offer any suggetions, (even if it is 'what you would do') that would be wonderful.
Price isn't too big of a concern... but it is a factor
Here is a pic of my car...(https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...5&pagenumber=3) Halfway down the page
Thanks
-Dave

Ok you opened the door about what "we would do"

I'd get rid of those rims...

anyways...never skimp on tires...those kuhmo's are ok at best...would never put them on my high hp FD...not a chance.

Besides how wide are the 3000GT rims...that will help us decide how wide you can go...

I am not sure how wide they are, Do I just take a measuring tape to them?
I know that 245/40 fit on them becuase that is what it had on them before (but they were 75% bald).
From looking at them, the 235/40 pull in slightly, and the 245/40 pouch out slightly (when at 30 psi each)
What brand would you suggest?
Would OZ wheels be an improvment? I like how the Sinfonia and Superturismo look (I was looking at their sale page).
Would you recomend going with 18" again, or 17"?
Thanks

They are definately bling bling... But I would seriously see if you can get any offers for them from any of the 3000gt guys because I am pretty sure they are heavy as hell. I would go with stockers even just to get rid of them...

only small problems with that is that I don't have the stock rims. the guy who sold me the car didn't have them... So I would need to purchase new rims + wheels before getting rid of this set... which is possible...I *could* pull as much as $1500 total...I don't mind getting something used... Or I could trade...(anyone interested??? )

They should be 8.5's or 9's. I'm leaning towards 9"ers front and rear.

Run a 245/35/18 front and rear. Don't go wider on the wheels because they are the same width all around.

Where are you located? I have a representative in Las Vegas that has a 3000GT and would love the upgrade. Are there any scratches? What is the condition of the chrome, flaking etc?

Thanks, Rishie

I will be in LA and Vegas this week, so please call me on my cell 408-799-6723.

I could work something out for you on your new set of wheels if you'd like. Let the BOYZ, Johnny/Manny/13Bace, know of your budget and they should be able to help you out big time. They are most knowledgeable. hehe. As soon as you guys pick something, call me and I'll see what we can work out.

Nice car, but those wheels are horrible. No offense ... we're just here to help you

If Rishie has a way for you to get rid of those and get some nice Volks or something, go for it. Get something light, think about going to a 17" rim. Lighter for one, and cheaper tires ... and it will ride/handle better. And accelerate quicker because the 18" combo is a larger diameter - same as changing your rear end gearing.

Talk to Rishie - I know he'll take care of you.

Where in MO are you? I'm in STL, I'm the Webmaster of this site.

$1500 total for wheels AND tires?

Don't know of anything NEW you could buy in 17 or 18-inch for $1500. Definitely will need to lurk in the partstrader.com for used wheels/tires someone's trying to unload?

If $1500 for wheels only, then SSR Competitions in 8.5 and 9.5 x 17, 42 mm offset. They'll run $1596 retail from Tire Rack (or whatever Rishie can hook you up with). Very lightweight wheels and the Rack markets these wheels for road AND race use. 8.5 x 17 weighs 15 lbs. 9.5 x 17 weighs 16 lbs.

If you can stretch beyond $2000, then Volk SE37Ks in 8.5 and 9.5 x 17s (Fr/Rr respectively), 40 mm offsets. PM Rishie for pricing.

Least expensive maximum performance tires for the 8.5 and 9.5 x 17 wheels would be Pirelli P-Zero Asimetiricos or Rossos (Tire Rack prices). I would pick 225/45-17 and 255/40-17s.

Kumho Supra 712s are strictly for the "all-show-no-go" set (IMHO).
