It is time. 17 years and 120,000 mile has taken it's toll on the factory springs and struts. They are a joke, seriously, I laugh at them every time I drive.

I am really set on getting the RB springs. They have a modest 1 inch drop, are affordable at $240 and there are no worries with quality with RB. I had intrax on my last 7. I like them alot, but my N1 Duels cant take anymore of a beating from my car being that low (2 inch drop).

The struts on the other hand.... I have no Idea what to get. I don't want to drop $800 on struts. I don't want coil overs. I don't want adjustable. I just want new struts. I will go with OEM unless I can find aftermarket struts that would work better with the dropped springs and not cost me my bank account.

Can anyone point me twords some affordable aftermarket struts?

Instulation is not an issue. By brother works at a shop.

NEXT: swaybars and strut towers bars. I want both, which improves handling more? Which should I get first?

 

i am SO set on RB springs too. i also have the stock susp. and it is a joke. what about KYB non adj.? they are pretty cheap and i guess, slightly better than stock.

one question though 13B... how was your camber in the rear, when you had the intrax's on? did you do anything about the neg. camber? or was there any?

 

There was alot of negative camber. It was that way when I sold it. Depending on what you are looking for, negative camber can be a good thing or a bad thing. I have looked into it recently and found a camber adjustment ket for the rear wheels for $100.

I think the KYB non-adjustable come out just under $600. That is alot! Well, to me anyway. The cheapest I have found so far are the Tokico struts. They come to $400 for a set. I will have to check how cheap I can get stock ones for. My brother is moving from a Dodge dealership to a Mazda dealership in January so I may be able to get them pretty cheap.

racing beat sells a package deal if you buy their whole setup. You have to ask for the deal as they usually dont suggest it....it was in an old catalog.

Get the non adjustables shocks from them and you'll be happy. Tokicos I think? good shocks as well. bilsteins are better imo

anti sway bars reduce body roll. Strut tower braces lessen some body flex and reduce some roll.

Anti sway bars make a more noticeable difference in my opinion. But that is attributable to installing new urethane bushings at the same time. I think the sway bars make the car handle differently and the tower brace makes the car feel differently.


At any rate you'll want to do the anti sway bars first. Rb sells the bars and the brace as a package as well.

 

I've had tokico and konis on a couple of my FCs. I liked the Konis better. RB stuff is good.

 

If your car has that much age and mileage I would highly recommend you change all the suspension bushings if you haven't done so already, they're probably all gone bad, and need replacement by now.

 

Tokico are good until they get old, they they sound like a old woman on crack
Edit: I'm getting rid of the Tokico setup on mine as soon as I have enough money to get the car registered! (yup, 3months of rx7 fun with no paper work behind it! did manage to get pulled over in my accord for doing 9 over in a 35 zone though)

How long till they were "old"? I thought struts last about 75k.

 

dunno I bought mine on my RX7, but the guy that I got it from said he only put them on 15k ago.

 

don't forget to replace the suspension bushings. They are around $100 for polyeurathane bushings and the rear toe eliminator bushing (Mazdatrix and others carry this).

I have racingbeat springs, tokico shox struts non adj, racingbeat swaybars, racingbeat endlinks, racingbeat strutbar its a great set up. if i was u before installing shox I would buy urathane rear shock mounts same with strut mount i went with cusco on frount strut mount and cusco on the rear shock mount. I have no complaints If u dod get swaybars I recomend changin end links aswell my stock ones got tore up quick just like I thought
