I'm looking at a set of 17x9 wheels for the front and back of the car. The biggest offset available would be a +44. Would this be ok for the front wheel without any issues? They have a 17x8 in a +47 offset, but I'd prefer the wider wheel. Any suggestions? Sorry, after searching for an hour I've found my answer and of course it was after I posted this question :S For anyone wondering - the +44 offset should work fine.

No, I meant I had already been searching for an hour prior to posting and then like "8 minutes" later I found my answer. It's just ironic how things work.

 

Well instead of starting a new post I thought I could continue in this one since it's on a similar note. How would 17x9 wheels fit with a +28 if I wasn't worried about the fender? Also what about a +17 offset? I saw a Japanese GT FD with +22 wheels and other than the fenders they're running fine with that setup. Do you think that either of these two setups would require anything else and how stressful would it be on the lugs? Does anyone have any pics of a +15 - +30 setup of wheels on a FD?

+44 should be fine

 

He's referring to a low offset between +15 and +30.

On a stock car I don't think it's going to work.

 

I have a 16x8 with +32 that works and no rubbing, but I doubt you could do it with a 9 inch rim. If you're not stock height, I don't think my setup would even work, much less one with a lower offset and a wider rim.

 

thanks for the replies guys. I should've been more clear in the 2nd post...I was refering to if the fenders weren't stock. Say you got aftermarket fenders or a widebody...is there any reason that those offsets wouldn't work? (the +15 to +30 offset) I guess I'm wondering if there would be too much stress on the hub or anything else...like the front wheels perhaps grabbing on a turn, etc.

 

Severely altering the wheel offset is not a good idea as it changes the suspension geometry significantly. Personally, I don't get the whole "widebody" thing anyway....

 

True it would change the suspension but wouldn't coilovers adjust it effectively? I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas around. I'm sure there are some benefits to the widebody stance, I can't think of any off hand but although there are a lot of things negative about it, I'm sure there are also some benefits?

 

Why are those of you who have 8" wide wheels not using the factory 50 mm offset?

 

I can't speak for others, but I know for myself a lot of wheels don't come in that high of an offset.
