17'' wheels from JDM FD's 1998-2002

I saw a writeup in my most recent RX Tuner about an FD with JDM rims from a 2000 FD in japan that were nice looking 17's. I'm thinking about going down to 17''s for my 8, and I wanted to know if anyone has them or knows how much they weigh. Thanks

There are more than a few posts about these on the forum. Do a search. I also have tons of info on my site about them.

These? A few people have them but they are hard to get, since they're usually sourced from Japan. A set sold recently in the Classifieds and the asking price was something like $1550/shipped(?). IIRC, they're 17x8 +50 up front and 17x8.5 +50 out back, and they weigh 18 and 19 lbs., respectively.

He says he bought a scale. What type of scale? One made to weigh people maybe? Don't believe everything you read unless it is repeated. I weighed mine with a scale that was probably more money than the wheels. The data is on my website. 17 lbs for the 8.5s! But again, don't take just my word for it either but I'd trust my data over his.

I don't know what kind of a scale he used. Was it calibrated or not? Did he round off the weight to the higher number? Who knows? Why don't you ask him? I really don't care that much about it to be honest with you; I just posted *his* measurements. Unless you were there, and had *his* wheels in your hands, and put them on *your* scale, and saw with your *own* two eyes what *his* wheels weigh, then can you really say that the weight is incorrect? It's only a pound or two difference from what you found your 17s to weigh. Probably just a common variance. Would that be fair enough to say?

Yeap, that was my point I just don't like to see info posted that others can read and think is a fact. I doubt there would be 2 lbs of variance though. I weighed all 4 of mine and the variance was within 0.22 lbs.

Edit: I should add that all 4 of mine are 8.5s, which naturally means they were from 2 different cars. I guess there could be two versions of the wheels just like our 16s, which would explain the difference but I have never heard about it. My bet is that he used a $20 Kmart bathroom scale.

Like stock FD ('93 - '95) rims, they should fit w/ spacers.

The weights Speedking posted seem reasonable to me.

Well with the same % of error our cars weigh around 3100 lbs. If somebody told you an FD weighed that much would you think it is reasonable?

I've heard bad bad things about spacers (like them breaking or not allowing the lug nuts to "bite" to their full potential). Is this stuff B.S. or just people not knowing what the hell they're doing?

Spacers when properly used are not dangerous. Like anything else that appears simple they can still be screwed up though
