Exclamation 17 inch rims advantages?

Since Rx-7's come with 16 inch wheels, would 17's be a better bet than 18's.. Other than a cheaper cost of the rim and tire, what other if any advantages are there of 17's instead of 18's? I searched but didn't get anything to great. The car I am about to buy comes with 18's and I was thinking of selling those and going with a nice 17 inch.

Better ride quality. The lower your sidewall, the less you have insulating you from rougher roads.

IMO, 17's still have a slightly better tire selection however it's not as much of a problem as it once was (since a lot of cars are coming OEM with 18" wheels these days).

hmm thanks for that, anybody have any pics of 17's, I wonder if it is noticably smaller, I had 18's on my old fd, and they did look really good, But if I could save a buck by getting rid of an inch I will do it.

That really comes down to the style of the wheel. I've seen 18" wheels that look like monster truck wheels and I've seen 17's that look larger than 17".

If you are going for looks only, then stay with the 18's.

18" tires are more expensive. The differences between running 17" and 18" are swamped by individual wheels effects (offset, width, weight).

I think 18" are ideal for looks on an FD (didn't used to be that way!). Many high performance tires are even starting to limit their sizes in 17"....bad trend for people with older performance cars like us.
