$900+ For New Brakes On A FD....WTF

The shop I go to is moving, but I need brakes now. So I decided to take it to the dealership. they are quoting me over $900 for front and rear pads and new rear rotors. I paid $500 for my last brake job of front and rear pads with front rotors.

Where the hell do dealships think these prices up at. Looks like I might be doing my first brake job.

Definitely do it yourself! Spend the money you're saving on a Sears Craftsman mechanic's tool set ($199) and you'll be set! One of the first things I did myself over 10 years ago, and it just snow balled from there...

Ps: Rock auto rocks! I found Monroe shocks for my truck at a steal of a price on closeout once.

Just bought Hawk HPS pads and rear power slot rotors for $248.70 from summit racing (free shipping) and ordered steel braid brake lines and Dot5 fluid for $200.00 form my buddies shop (JDM Concepts).

I've been told brakes are easy, but I just got a new job and my weekends are currently filled with wedding planning stuff so I don't know if I'd have time since the car is my DD. My buddy with the shop said he'd do the full install of it all and bleed the lines for the new fluid for $300, I think I'm going to take him up on it. Its till $206 cheaper than the dealership, plus I'm getting better than OEM parts.
