When you go to look at the Z06, ask the guy if he can find a spare set of front caliper abutments for me...or where to look for them...salvage yard, 'Net site, etc...I need two...

was it a 385hp Z06 or the 405?
If you're looking at those, I'd say that now woudl be about teh *worst* time to buy either of those two cars... the C6 shoudl hit dealers within the next month or two, and the '05 mustang soon to follow after that..
I'd expect the values of both of those to drop shortly afterwards...

Say what you want, but I can't complain when less than 5k in mods gets you 600+ hp to the wheels reliably. Stock bottom end on those motors will hold 1000 hp easy. And if it does break, all the stuff is bolt ons so I can pull it off and have the warranty take care of it. The 03+ cobra is very much different that your regular gt. Plus everything aftermarket is cheep for them. This is the one I am looking at now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tegory=6236#lg
As for the vette, it didn't impress me. It was an 01 so 385 hp. Not much different than the 405hp version. Mostly a less agressive cam and a little more intake restriciton. At 46,000 miles the suspension felt soft and the shifter sloppy. Felt like I was rowing a boat. 2 wheels were curbed, and a big scratch under the passenger door. Looked like it ran over something. They wanted 29k, I offered 26k. Salesman said 27,900 so I said we could talk about that, but when they didn't want to put the car on the lift for me to see if anything else was damaged I walked. Besides, ls1s are too expensive to modify. Either way I don't want another rx-7. Stock they are too slow, and there is no way to keep a 500 rwhp fd together for long. I still have the other silver fd I picked up little while ago, but thats getting sold too as soon as I get the body work done on it. The new C6 looks good but its costly. The 05 mustang is hideous and the cobra won't be out for 2 more years.

As for C5's being too expensive to modify- your research is incorrect. $1000 gets a a G5X2 cam kit and 450rwhp.
$3k gets you said cam and a set of AFR 205 heads and ~500 rwhp. Sure, it's more expensive than any stock FI car to modify (duh!), but it's NOT that expensive if you know what to buy. You're just used to living in dilusinal FI land where things are practically free.
Not to mention it actually TURNS unlike the Cobra.

Yeah I heard today at a chevy dealer there taking 10k right off the bat on a 04 vette. I would wait a little like Eric and them have said and get a good deal on a C5.
