TX Title help

Hi, for the past several months i have been waiting to purchase a FC from a local shop. it doesnt run and there is no title.

turns out that the owner now lives in colorado. so i was contacted by the seller and now i have been waiting since feb 18th for the title paperwork.

i've been patient and understanding, but im almost at the point of saying forget it.

but the question i have is this, can i apply for a new title on a car myself?

i looked at the tax office's website and i think i saw certain pdf's that might be what i was looking for, but i have never tried to apply for a new title on any vehicle.

has anyone here had to do that? i am just holding back on buying it because i dont want to have the car, then for a strange series of events to happen where the owner comes looking for it. i know its highly improbable, but stranger things have happened.

would it be better to go to the tax office and ask them?

many many thanks in advanced to any replies that help.

thanks!

ok screw it. im tired of waiting. so my options are to get it, or to just tell him forget it and look for a different fc.

im not sure what to do.

be paitent, yes you can apply for a new title and it will take a bit of paper work and alot of time and driving around on your end. You could always get the shop that it is currently in to put a auto mechanics lean on the car and get a title that way. But i dont know the situation and if the guy owes the shop money or not.

i talked to some people and i have a way to get a title myself. i dont know how long that could take, but i could be working on it in the mean time.

but the guy im buying it from owns the shop. i understand he is busy, but at first it was just 30 days. then another 30 days. then a month or two of like not really telling me how much longer it will take.

as far as owed money, the previous owner supposedly had a loan taken out, but couldnt pay it off. and it ended up abandonded. he did put a lean on it.

he has all the papers. he said he would submit them last week. and he said to call thursday to remind him. did just that. and nothing. hasnt gotten around to it.

its just that i have free time now because im on summer break for school so this is the perfect time to get that car working again, but its just more hold ups after another. sorry its a bit of a rant...

dude trust me i went thru alot of crap to get my rx7, its worth it in the end. I have a bunch of title problems selling my bike inorder to get the fd. Texas loves to hastle us with its taxes and titles. If hes filing for the lean thats good, best way to go. But if your in a rush and moneys not a matter (just for cost of title transfer and other things here and there.) then by all means take the bull by the horns. Allways better doing **** yourself.
