Thinkin of moving to Austin...hows the scene?
Well I am debating a totally random move to Austin. I've never been there but I need a change and have heard nothing but great stuff about the city.
How is the life there? And how about the rotary scene? Any advice would be great. Everything I have read about the city makes it sound pretty fantastic and exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance guys.

Yeah thats what everyone says who has never lived here. I could write a novel about why but just believe me, there are plenty of good reasons! lol
Now the real debate is to where. How is Austin!?

I was just giving you crap, I've heard lots of things that would make hawaii a bummer, mostly high cost of living and the whole "ice" epidemic, such a shame as it's such a gorgeous area....which I've never gotten to visit in person to this day.
Austin is okay, there's not much of a "scene" down here so to speak, not like it was back in the 80-90's where 6th street was still open and you could still drive down it. There's still a few car clubs and stuff like that, and people hang out on Saturday nights at different places, but it's not like it was back in the day. The good and bad of this place is that it's been labeled "recession proof", so EVERY one is moving here, which is crowding the roads with people who don't know where they're going just yet, and there's tons of them. If you add to that the whole development thing (every square inch of this palce is turning into a condo or cvs/walgreens store) it's a bit lame, but on the upside the heat here is bearable, we do have the hill country to play in and it's only minutes outside of Austin (there's other fun roads within the city too) and the beach is only about 2-3 hours away. Austin has a lot of the things the larger places like Dallas and Houston have, just not as big and it doesn't take day to drive from one side to the other lol The music scene here is still awesome, and there's tons of stuff to do on any given day. I've been here 29 years so I've watched it explode into what it is today, maybe some folks who haven't been here as long can offer their perspective as well.

Thanks for the reply! I can imagine what you mean about the sprawl. Everywhere I look I read amazing things about the city, so I can imagine alot of people are moving there. The scene has basically hit a brick wall here in Hawaii with the closing of the track, terrible roads, and police everywhere. (btw the speed limit here is 50 and 30 over is a felony). I still love this place, and it might be great to come back when Im older but right now, Id like to live somewhere that I can have a little more fun. Not just car stuff...but music, and places that people can actually get together other than the beach. I wish I could come visit first but its now so expensive to leave the island that its a little prohibitive. I joined your rotary club page...hopefully I can learn some more there too!
