Texas Independence Day Run - March 3, 2007

Texas Independence Day is March 2nd

The Houston Miata Club will have a run on Saturday March 3rd beginning in NW Houston and ending up at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Site for the annual celebration there
Here are some details about the celebration:

March 3–4, 2007 — Washington-on-the-Brazos SHS — Texas Independence Day Celebration — Celebrate Texas' 171st birthday at the "Birthplace of Texas," Washington-on-the-Brazos. Demonstrators, re-enactors and period music come together to make history come alive. Visit Independence Hall where the Texas Declaration was adopted March 2, 1836 and learn about Texas' ten years as a sovereign nation at the Star of the Republic Museum. There will be something for everyone. 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; tour fees are waived during this special weekend. (936) 878-2214. If you want breakfast before we go, we will be at CC's Cafe Tomball at the intersection of SH249(Tomball Pkwy) and SH 2920(Main St.)

Arrive early enough to eat. It is not a large restaurant, is good and is popular so we will not be the only ones competing for a table.

We will leave CC's Cafe at 8:45am to go to Montgomery.

The route to Montgomery is continue north on SH249 to the stop light at Pinehurst, TX. Turn right at the light, over the railroad tracks onto SH149 (The Montgomery Trace). This will wind through the morning countryside and cross SH105 in downtown Montgomery.

If you want to meet us in Montgomery and want to eat there, the place to go is King's Cafe just north of 105 on 149. Look for the motorcycles. They have a great breakfast and good service. Again, it is a popular place on Saturday morning so arrive in time to eat before meeting us across 105 by McDonald's.

We should arrive at the next stop about 9:30am. It will be at the McDonald's Parking lot in Montgomery at the intersection of SH149 and SH105. That stop will be merely a pickup of drivers there.

We will leave Montgomery at 9:45am to start on our way to Washington-on-the-Brazos.

The route will take us North on SH149 from Montgomery through the Sam Houston National Forest and Richards, TX. Then through Anderson, TX and a little jog north so we can drive back to Navasota on FM3090 which, if you have never driven it, is a very nice twisty road - good for Miatas and motorcycles. The run from here is about 51 miles to Navasota. It will take about an hour and 15 minutes.

From Navasota, we will head east on SH105 to the W-o-t-B SHS for the celebration. We should arrive between 11:30 and 12:00.

There will be places to purchase food there and it you want to wait, it is only about 20 miles and 30 minutes to Chappell Hill where there are several really good places to eat (Beaver's Restaurant, a couple of good cafe's on the highway and a bar/hamburger place at the end of Main St. that usually sells a REALLY good ètouffè on Saturdays). There are several good shops there including my favorite - Texana Cigar and Coffee Shop.

If you need to contact the drive organizer for any reason related to the drive please call 281-414-4170 ask for Wiley.
