Unhappy RX-7 accident in Longview, TX

A 5-year-old Longview boy was killed after the driver left the road and hit a sign Friday night on Cheryl Street.

Christopher Lichty was riding in the front passenger seat of a Mazda RX-7 when the driver, 26-year-old Jonathan Taylor, hit a large sign made of rock, cement and railroad ties.

According to a news release by the Longview Police Department, the 5-year-old was wearing his seat belt, but the strap portion was under his arm and not worn properly. He died while in surgery at Longview Regional Medical Center.

Taylor, who was not wearing his seat belt, hit the windshield with his head. He also was taken to Longview Regional. Saturday he was in the Intensive Care Unit, and his condition on Sunday was not known.

Be safe out there guys and gals, I don't want this to be you someday.

Question

Was it speed or drinking involved????
I mean, signs don't jump in front of cars.
So sad to hear about the 5 year old.
The adult is responsible for strapping him correctly and if he doesn't want to, then don't move the car.

Had a RX-7 accident happen here in granbury Texas 3 weeks ago, Young kid doing a better than average speed and a big dodge truck pulled out of a side street, Kid tried to stop/swerve and hit the truck broadside with the RX-7 passenger side. Another useless loss of life, the driver of the truck claimed he did not see the RX, it was night and his lights were on, how could you not see a car coming if you look both ways. driver of the truck was about 17, he was not hurt at all.
Sorry to hear of any loss of life and especially young kids,
all you youngins, be advised, I don't care if you think you are tough...You can be hurt....Fast cars are fun but warrant your respect, little fast cars are no match for big solid objects. please be careful and think about your speed and wear your seat belts.

Hey Trent,
I didn't hear about that accident. I hear the kiddos talking in school about street racing and I just shake my head. I try to tell them about all the legal and safer places to race but they just don't listen. I guess teenagers just figure they are invincible.

Hows it going?? Are you coming out to the track day on the 3rd?
