I posted in the 2nd gen general discussion but thought I’d reintroduce myself here as well!
I had a 91 NA that I did a complete Turbo II swap on but sold back in 2012 due to time and space issues it didn’t make sense to have a 3rd car. When I sold it I told myself I’d get another one one day.
Between then and now ive gotten involved in tracking my previous cars (mazdaspeed3, wrx, STi) which were all my daily driver and dual purpose vehicles. After my last track day in 2017 I determined I wanted to work toward a dedicated track car vs dual purpose and tracking my daily driver so I sold my STi and got a cheaper, more comfortable daily (2011 BMW 335i) with the intentions of getting a dedicated track car one day.
This is last weekend I finally made the plunge and bought an 88’ GTU. It’s overall in very clean condition but not running. I’ll be keeping this streetable with a primary focus on track use. First thing to decide is the powerplant.
Current considerations are rebuild the 13b with S5 internals myself just to get it running at an affordable price and decide later, renesis swap it, pay for a professional performance build with a bridgeport, or if none of this makes performance/money sense for the car consider an LS swap (this is a last resort consideration but want to leave all my options on the table.)
Anyways here’s my old black 91 and my new 88 GTU. Excited to be back!
Welcome, I just sold an FB and FC. Keeping my FD and fixing to get it tuned. Always liked a rotary in the herd myself. Enjoy your car and the build process.
