{DFW} NEW member. NEED help with a 88 rx7

i just picked up a blue 88 with a perfict body for 500 bucks. engin runs but as soon as it starts it burns a crap load of water in the combustion camber and then dies. im guessing its the apex seals or somthing and proly needs a rebuild. i know nothing about rx7s but it look prety simple, at least more simple then my 3000gt. any one know a good place to get all the parts for a engin rebuild in DFW area, also, i proly want to rebuild it to be lil better then stock. i found one place online to get the seal kit for 130 bucks OEM. and the apex seals for 200 OEM. anything else i would need or dont need. please help

is it a turbo model? Its going to be alot more expensive than tht to rebuild the motor. Check out atkinsrotary.com, you are most likely going to need a full rebuild kit.

There is a couple of engine builders in the DFW area. Contact 3rdgensleeper(i think, ill tell him to look here) he builds motors in plano. Also carlos rivera of flauta racing in arlington. BDC builds motors in grand prarie(?), rotary performance is in garland, banzai racing is somewhere in fort worth.

If it is a turbo model I have a good shortblock motor that i pulled out of a car that im looking to sell. If you are interested or need anymore help pm me and ill see what i can do.

Sounds more like a coolant seal problem than an apex seal(although when rebuilding the motor you might was well replace all seals for good measure as you don't want that iffy seal you didn't replace to fail in your rebuilt motor and possibly destroy the replaced seals with it) But yea, Atkins or OEM Mazda seals seem to be the choice seals to use. Assuming the end of your name duhviously tells us you're from grand prairie I'd suggest taking the car to my buddy BDC, who also is in Grand Prairie so it'll be the shortest trip to a shop to take, and at least have him tell you what's up with your car if you're gonna DIY so there won't be any unwanted surprises. The thing is, I think he's currently on a tuning trip for the next week or so rebuilding and tuning some guy's 20b 2nd gen and tuning a couple other cars in South Carolina.*oh yea and BDC also photodocuments virtually all work he does for his clients which is available for the public to see his work http://bdc.cyberosity.com/main.php

Btw, if you're talking about Banzairacing.net, rudy, they are in Indiana. Maybe you meant Marvelspeed?

I agree with that statement.. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the rotary. It has a lot of tricks. I have done 5 and still learning.

If you are looking for a awsome porting job an good Halteck tunning......BDC (Brian) is your man. He also does rebuilts however, I don't know how much he charges.

If you want a rebuild at a reasonable price from a good reputable rebuilder who has been doing it for over 20 years I would suggest Rotary Generation (Johny) in Arlington.

If you want a good rebuilt from a reputable company go to Rotary Performance (Ari) in Garland. (They will charge you high because they have a reputation)

If you want a racing motor (you will be charge depending on what is being done)take it to Flauta (Carlos) in Arlington

If you want to try it yourself.....read a lot, plan on having the car down for a while and be prepared to ask a lot of questions. Be prepared for people not wanting to tell you details descriptively. And be prepared to even end up taking it to one of the people mentioned above.

PM me if you need anyones number. I could even introduce you to any of the above if you wan

Marvelspeed is in Rowlett, I'm going to guess he meant Gotham due to him mentioning Fort Worth.

rebuild

I have found if you are new to rx7's if you hit the streets you can find a good running rx7 that has been recked and buy it for next to nothing and perform a swap. that way you can enjoy your car while you have your other rebuilt. Performance rx7's... it's always good to have a spare
