Help Austin Rx7 Owners!!!

So, my fd that I bought over 11 months ago (non-running) is still non-running. Ive been gathering missing parts and I'm almost done collecting them all. Now to find out that I may be screwed because of low compression. I went to rotaryressurection.com today to see how to find out if I do or not. So, I went to my engine that is still on the pallet, almost done being put back together, and I get 2 really good compression sounds coming from the bottom spark plug. ......then on the third rotation, I get a really weak long "shhhhhh" sound with hardly any compression....I know I could have tested wrong, because there are a few missing parts that arent on the block yet. I dont know what else to do, sell the block and get a new one? Or ship it off and get a rebuild? Any help would be appreciated.

Parts on/off the engine don't matter. Where did the motor come from and its age/mileage?

Engine was a craigslist find, 800$, came from someone in Cali, then shipped to a guy here in Austin that never used it, lots of missing parts. But its from a '94, and it should have around 30k-40k on it.

Its too late to get my money back now because the deal was made back in August, just havent had the time to work on it, or have money to invest into it. Sound like I'm screwed?......

It doesn't sound good. My first question would be why pull a good relatively low mile engine. Also $800 sounds on the low end for a GOOD, strong engine. Is the rear rotor the low compression one?

When you say missing parts I assume your talking about the LIM, UIM, Alt,etc?

Be sure to search this, but Im going to say a shortblock can't have a proper compression test done which is exactly what you need IMO.

If the engine is indeed blown hope that the housings and rotors are in reusable shape. I believe a "cheap" rebuild starts around $1k+.

Its actually the front rotor, I havent check the rear one yet. But the missing parts were such as the LIM, Alt., turbos, but I had most of the missing parts off of my engine that had caught fire. Most of the plastics were gone, but everything was fine. Im going to do a compression check with a piston compression checker later today :/
