Hey I would just like to say that this fully sucks, I hate hearing about people getting ripped off!!! I am the branch manager of a security camera company, we specialize in cameras, its all we do so we know our ****. From experience in the industry THIS HAS TO BE SOMEONE YOU KNOW, they know your shop intimately, knew where the camera system was kept, how to disable your alarm and where to go and I imagine the fastest route, they knew where to disable your phone lines so your security co wouldn't know the sensors went off and they knew where everything was and what you had!!! If the police over your way are as useless as ours here when it comes to break ins and you know of someone it might be I would suggest either doing some investigation work yourself on that person or people or hire a private investigator to do the hard yards.
In future, install your camera system in a locked, vented computer cabinet that is bolted to the wall and install a UPS in case they cut the power too. if you need further help with a good system, PM me I am more than happy to help if I can.

That was the first thing we asked. The alarm company's reply was that they only recieve a call if the phone lines were shorted but not when they were cut. That was the first I ever heard since I used to get phone calls all the time when the phone line was down.

Steve,
I would also put the alarm company liable to this too. That is not true. I believe, someone correct me wrong, the alarm or the alarm place sends a signal back to it check on it every so often, some places check it every 1 minute and others every 30 seconds. If this wasn't true, what is the point of having an alarm that is easily disabled by cutting the phone line. This is not the 80's or like you see in movies.

Steve.... we spoke the other evening, so you know how sorry I am that this has happened to you guys. The people who did this will pay.
Regarding alarm companies. If they're anything like Security at our plant here at work, they were probably asleep at their desk or eating jelly-filled doughnuts and surfing **** sites instead of tending to busness

I believe this is referred to as a "loop start telephone line", although I deal less nowadays with our central station and monitoring. With a fault in the telephone line, your monitoring company should have dispatched authorities to your shop, but they could have called the shop instead. If someone there had the proper knowledge, and answered the phone, that could have stopped the alarm company from dispatching police. Your monitoring company should have this information if that is indeed the case.
Too bad I live so far from you guys. If I were closer, I would definitely volunteer my time to help get you more secure.

That is extremely unusual. If they did not act on a trouble from your alarm panel, then they should be liable for your loss. Who is your monitoring company if you don't mind me asking?

well, the problem is that the security company who installed the alarm is different than the monitoring company. my understanding is that the people who originally install the alarm for us sold the company to another alarm company few years ago. we don't know if they actually bought all contracts or just assets. either way, one of our customer is helping us out and is talking to an attorney for other alternatives.

Not real familiar with that part of the country. How hard is it to go south with that stuff...say just south of Laredo or Brownsville?

I agree on the liability issue. But in my experience, it's not all that unusual. It may have been 2:00 AM and they guy monitoring the panel couldn't cut it as a stocker at Walmart.

To Steve, Alex, and George: my heart goes out to you guys, I know you guys have been busy busting your asses around the shop lately, I'm really sorry to hear about this kind of ****.
I really hope you guys get this sorted out and back on your feet quickly, my heart sunk when I heard the news. I actually heard about a little while ago, my friend had an Evo up at your shop (Blue w/ T67, etc.) at got a call from George saying all of his tools were stolen.
Hope you guys get back on your feet quickly, you guys have been a great shop to me.

Yes, its true. It happened on the 19th. We think that it was someone that knows the shop well that did it. I think it was planned for a long time. The security system was disabled, the door of entry (wsa temper with). phone lines were all cut (we just now got it running again). Suvlenace camera system was taken away too.
So far, we estimated that they stole approx $150k worth of stuff. Tools alone was around $60k (all Snap-on and some Matco). We have a full bridge engine with NRS ceramic seals, coated rotors, balanced, studded... etc... that was purposely built for a drag car for a customer that was stolen. 2 tranny, approx 7 PFC was stolen (including PFC that was in customers car). Tial BOV, Turbo kits, turbos, Twin power amp, AEM amp, 2 Exedy triple disk clutch, kaaz diff, TT, two 13B stud kit, Custom racing axles for FD(cost $3000). Supra turbo kits, Supra Hydra ECU.
too many things to list. We are just waiting on our insurance to see what will happen.
