Dallas Cannonball III 9/30/06

The Dallas Cannonball III will be 9/30/06
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Mi Cosinas, SE corner 635 and MacArthur in Irving.

The cannonball is NOT A RACE, rather a social event that involves a spirited drive! you do not need a fast car, nor do you need to speed. The cannonball concludes with a party at the end.

the drive will take about an hour, same route as last time. I will have maps.

The drive will end at Chausers in Addison, Beltline and the tollway, in their parking garage.

Also have a prize for most unique car to finish the run.
and other prizes as well!!!

map for the Start:

Damn, if I wasn't already coming up to Dallas the weekend before I'd do it in my heap daily driver. It looks like fun.

See? I've known since I was 4 that spinach was bad news. 22 years later, sweet vindication!

Seriously though, I hope everything goes alright.

I don't think custom piping alone is a disqualifier, as long as you can pass the emissions part of it. There's a place right at the 1171 (Main Street) exit in Lewisville on 35-E that's always been pretty lenient, but if you don't pass emissions they can't do much for ya. :P

what happened to all the Rx7s????????
it was a good run, plenty of cars showed up, no cop trouble

winner and fastest car (he was still hauling *** in the parking lot)

took a little over an hour for the first cars to show, much slower pace then in the past, but still fun

I just wanted to thank James and everyone else that helped me out when my wife's Mustang overheated. :P It turns out the shop that did the work when Ford did their headgasket recall on the 94 v6's didn't clean the block so it didn't make a good seal and dumped water into the #5 cylinder (those things that everyone ELSE has. ). It's probably been leaking a little bit every so often for years, which explains why every since I've known her we've been fighting sporadic overheating with that car a couple of times a year.

Never one to miss a chance to make lemonade when life hands me lemons, I'll be installing the new headgaskets and haver her up and running again just after I finish porting the heads and intake manifolds. I sure am getting tired of working on cars though. :P I just finished rebuilding the RX7 engine and have been trying to get it running right, put lowering springs on the Neon, then moved on to her BMW, and now this. :P I've been doing something to a damned car every night after work and every weekend for about the last two months! :P

No problem, I'm glad I could help you out. I didn't have any use for the extra windows, and once I get her engine back together I'll finish wiring up my window switches so I'll have power windows in my car.

Rebuilding the engine isn't too hard, the hardest part is to make sure you do it right. I know that sounds stupid, but what I'm saying is, if you get the engine halfway back together and you think you missed something, or find an extra corner seal, go back and check to make sure. If you don't remember putting the o-ring on one of the housings, go back and make sure. Other than having to redo some things a couple of times until I was comfortable with it, everythings running okay. Label your vacuum tubes and connectors and stuff too. Autozone has some little flags that you can put on both sides of a connector before you take it apart so that you can always put it back the way you took it off.

Tips that will make it a world easier for you (or did for me anyway!)

- unplug the engine harness from under the passenger side carpet and pull the harness with the engine.
- break the bolts on the transmission barely loose before pulling the engine, then pull the tranny with the engine, makes reinstalling easy. Don't forget to drain all your fluids first!
- remove the intakes with the engine in the car gives you more room to work
- remove the radiator and fan before trying to pull the engine out.
- go ahead and buy the engine hoist. The first time I did it, I ended up keeping it for a week so that I could swap the new engine back in, and it cost $140. The second time I went to Northern Tool and bought the damned hoist for $149. The legs fold up on this one so it takes up almost no space in the garage.

Take your time and do it right! Good luck!
